White NAACP Leader Who Passed As Black

I'm all for people being who they want to be, but doesn't it do a disservice to black people who actually lived through experiences - good and bad - that make up their culture? Especially when in a position of authority like the NAACP? I'll be interested in hearing how black people actually feel about this. (Somehow I don't think it's going to be just a matter of, "She can be black if she wants to" for most people.)

Would Caitlyn be lying if she put on her Driver's License that she is a woman? What's the difference?

If you can't see the difference, I don't know what to say. If a minority is given some type of benefit in the college application or scholarship process due to their race, then it is not acceptable for a person to lie on their application. I think you and I both know why a minority might be given an advantage based on race. It's because they may have not had the same advantages as a person who is not a minority while growing up. That is completely different than Caitlyn claiming she is a female on her driver's license. Caitlyn is not benefitting financially or scholastically.

If the NAACP leader benefited from lying on an application, then she should have to pay back any benefit she received. Also, she should be held accountable for lying. People can't just decide they are a minority in order to benefit from it by lying on a legal document.

I don't care who she feels like or what ( same goes for Bruce Jenner) but she committed fraud by taking money for something she was not entitled to. Period. The applications do NOT say " what race do you feel like you are? " it says " race" and her answer should have been white . She also lied about being targeted for being black, was called out on that also. Her white parents are not the only ones that called her out, her black sibling did also.

So, transgender boy-to-girl people can apply for girls' scholarships and play girls' sports, etc.

For the record, people were overwhelmingly supportive of Caitlyn Jenner choosing a different identity. He said he felt like a woman for years and years. He married Chris Jenner anyway. Isn't that deception? How is that ok?

I think identifying with a different race is probably common. I used to work with a lady who asked us to a block party. She said one weekend as black and we would never go back. Sounded like fun.

You have idea what Chris was told before their marriage. Pure speculation.

Bruce Jenner never claimed to be a women, did not apply to the Olympics as a women . He said he felt like a women and his previous wives knew it suspected this and so did kris Jenner. He did not apply for jobs as a women. This is not the same thing at all.I don't think anyone has a problem with her " feeling" black, the issue is she lied MANY times about a lot of things including scholarships and applying for certain jobs claiming to be a minority where that could have prevented her from getting that money or job by telling the truth. The issue is the fraud and the fact she went so far with the lies.

As far as I know it's still a bit of a struggle for people who are transgendered to play the sport that they are transitioning to. In fact, there hadn't been any openly transgendered athletes until a couple of years ago, and I know that for the olympics for example they have to have the reassignment surgery and have been on medicine for 2 years.

Caityln Jenner struggled, and maybe she wasn't ready to accept in the beginning that she wanted to be a woman and thought that if she married Chris that she would feel differently. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris knew something was up, we don't really know their full story and its not our business. It's not deception, you're reaching.

He's calling himself a woman now. If he has a Driver's License that says he is a woman, is that okay? He's lucky enough to not need scholarships, and is too old. If you can declare yourself a woman based on feelings, why can't you declare yourself black?

I think she's brave. She lived who she felt she was. She looks better now than before. What if on her deathbed she looked back wishing she could have been black like her brothers and shared their experiences? Now, she's done it. She doesn't have to regret living a lie.
What the heck is brave about being dishonest? Our culture has become so amoral.

She lied early on. That's the whole problem. I have no issue with her identifying as black. She certainly lived "black" for a long time. I'm sure that's how she feels. It's the early lying that really was wrong.

Bruce Jenner; different story. He felt female for a long time. He did come clean with his first wife while they were married once he figured it out. I'm not sure he ever used his "female" status for any gain in his early days.

Do you think this is wrong?

Should she be given an award for bravery like Caitlyn Jenner?

I think she has psychiatric issues. Her brother spoke out about it. She fully misrepresented herself. She claims her siblings as her children and told one if them to "not blow her cover".

Bruce Jenner did not lie and say he was born a girl with all the bits nor claimed to know what it is like to grow up as a female since he didn't. (Using "he" as I am referring to him and not her in this context.)

No amount of good will justify this woman's actions.

Read what her brother says:

Bruce Jenner went to college on a football scholarship AS A MAN even though he has always felt like a women. He did it legally and the correct way. There is no comparison.I am not sure why he keeps being compared to her? She lied outright , she didn't tell them " I feel like a black person" she said she was black and took funds away from minority's that were qualified. The bottom line is she did not qualify for those funds, she knew that.

Why would you say this?

So, transgender people shouldn't be able to take girl scholarships and should not be able to work for women's groups unless they disclose their previous gender?
I'm not sure what the rules are exactly. When does it become legal for a person born one gender but identifies as another to be considered legally that gender? Post op? We know that transgendered people can be legally considered the gender they identify with at some point because even before gay marriage was legal post op transgender people were legally able to marry a person of their birth gender. So we know there must be a legal definition of male and female. If there were a legal definition of race you could compare race to gender but as far as I am aware the is no such definition. For that reason it is not possible to compare people who identify with another gender to people who self identify as another race.
