Tonight I got out our magic bands from previous trips and noticed they have an awful white film/residue on them. I'm thinking maybe it is from wearing them while swimming. Anyone know what I can do to get rid of the film? It's so bad we don't even want to wear them on our upcoming trip.

Have you tried cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol? It shouldn't hurt them,I use acetone for cleaning up any excess polish when I paint mine with nail polish, and there's never any damage, so I imagine alcohol would be even less likely to be an issue.

Are you sure it's not a film from sunscreen?

I'd more guess it's sunscreen that caused that, it should wash right up.

Ours all get that gross residue as well. Even some we got new had that on them. I have not noticed on the 2.0 magic bands yet. We always use a wet one's wipe to clean them.

Sunscreen or lotion would be my guess. I have over 20 mb and none of them have a white film. I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer body mist for sunscreen.

The salt in sweat will leave a residue behind also. It should rinse right off.

We got that when we used spray sunscreen. Just washing it with water did not work. Have not yet tried rubbing alcohol. I'm curious to know if anyone was able to clean the film off the bands.

I'm pretty sure it's just natural breakdown of whatever material they're made of reacting with skin oils, because all of ours have it, regardless of whether we swam or used sunscreen that trip. They've all cleaned up with isopropyl without any indication of damage, but they've all turned back white after storage.

I've read that using one of the Magic Erasers (Mr. Clean type sponges) will clean it right off. Haven't tried it but others swear by it.

Rubber boots tend to have the same "blooming" effect.

If all else fails you can look into a rain boot cleaner. That's what I did but I work in a shoe store and have access to the product. Not sure I would have bothered if it meant a special trip out to buy it.
