I do neither one of those.I was always told after 40 it's "wear your sleeves long, and your hair short".
I never wear white shoes other than tennies. Tomorrow’s party outfit will be my new cute white skirt, a sleeveless black top with ruffled edges and black sandals. As someone with a degree in Fashion Merchandising Management (Do I use that degree? unfortunately no) I can tell you that was specifically for SHOES and the reasoning was mostly because they were more likely to get dirty if worn outside of sunny summer months.
This "rule" has long been out dated.
Wear your white.
If you want to "follow the rule" then wear a light brown shoe with it.
Honestly, I wear black almost every day either on the top or bottom or both. My husband calls me Elvira. He loves Elvira so that is indeed a compliment.White skirt? Sure why not?
Of course there is more black in my wardrobe than any other color soooo what do I know.
Oh.
But don’t wear white shoes (anytime) unless you’re a waitress or nurse OR it’s Halloween….
This was true for the 70s as well. We were not allowed to wear jeans. In fact, all of us young ladies in the family were not even allowed to wear pants. Skirts and dresses only. Probably part of my hang ups with fashion rules....and no one wore jeans to church in the 1960's either. Wear what you want!
Easter.so if you can't wear white after Labor Day, when can you start wearing it again?![]()
The "rule" in NH was Memorial Day! Ridiculous!so if you can't wear white after Labor Day, when can you start wearing it again?![]()

That would be me. Never liked wearing jeans.I have never heard "women over 40 can't wear jeans." Yikes. I'm 62 and of course I wear jeans. I don't know anyone who doesn't unless they find them uncomfortable.

That’s “winter white” COMPLETELY different version of white. My sister told me, women after 40 don't wear jeans. I wear jeans. Not white jeans though. LOL
Don't people wear a lot of white at Christmas??? Are those people breaking rules???
Well, excuuuuuse me. I'll just take my pearls and go home. That’s “winter white” COMPLETELY different version of white./S
My husband is still a stickler for this rule. In fact, he mentioned it just today. We were at a place in the country where a lot of the men were wearing their cowboy hats in the dining room. That’s a big no-no in his book.like men not wearing hats inside
