Hi, we're about an hour from whitby so have never stayed there, but we prefer it to the much busier scarborough.
For accommodation try the tourist info office, they're usually quite good.
You MUST eat fish and chips (Magpie cafe our favourite, but you have to queue!). Also plenty of boat trips available, shops with whitby jet jewellery, walk up to the abbey where dracula was set, small fairground, stroll on beach if weather good and tide out! There's also some nice shops in the town (great choc shop over the bridge where they weigh out broken choc for you into little bags!) crazy golf on cliff where whale bones are.
I'm sure there's much more to do too, that's all we ever get done!!

Just noticed where you're from - been on phone and writing letters to mansfield town fc and the trading standards there today. I work for a coach company that transport darlington fc supporters to away matches and we got a ticket in post on friday for parking on the trading estate - in september!! But we hadn't had a ticket on the night or ticket in the post in the months since, and the stewards had told us to park there! Trading standards had heard of the parking ticket issuing company - surprise surprise!!
