One of the restaurants we are interested in visiting is Whispering Canyon. We are two families traveling with a 41/2 yr old, 3 yr old and a 2 1/2 yr old. Will this restaurant be a waste on them (I don't mean the food more the atmosphere). I've heard the stfaf is very interactive but wasn't sure exactly what went on. TIA! :)

You should get a lot of replies on this. The staff is very "energetic" from what I hear and very attentive to children. I think your kids will love it there. We'll be there at the end of the year ourselves.

At one point during the meal the servers will call all the little kids up to ride the stick horses (can't remember what they're really called). All the children seem to really enjoy that. ;)

I don't think it would be a waste at all!!! We really like WCC for the atmosphere and energy....the food is good, not great but it's worth a try if you've never been.

My kids had a great time here, ages 11 & 7. My DS wanted them to yell Ketchup the whole time.

This maybe the best dining experience for them. Lots of interaction and the kids can get up and have fun. The 4.5yo will be able to participate in lots of rowdy kid stuff and have lots of fun doing it. It also give the parents a chance to enjoy a meal! :thumbsup2

My advice: Eat a small breakfast and no lunch..... go there hungry!

I read about WCC years ago and we went for the first time last March, and WOW..not only was the interactive staff fun and entertaining for me, my parents, and my two teen sons, 18 and 16, but the food was delicious! We got the family style all you can eat, the chicken is delicious, along with the pulled pork , even the salad in the beginning is good. It's fun and we have found the 3 times we have been in the last year, you can be as involved in the festivities as you desire. My sons are kind of laid back and would rather watch and the staff is just great, the food is delicious, this restaurant is always on our list of restaurants to eat at for every visit now! :goodvibes

It is our favorite restuarant just because of the interaction. The picture in my signature is with our favorite WCC waiter....your kids shouldl love it...

the 2 youngest might be a little young to get the jokes but it's a very fun place and at least they can be as loud as they want and no one will notice! and they probably would be old enough to do the pony races . I remember a tiny one racing last time so i don't think there is any age limit. it is probably imo the most fun dining experience at WDW and the food we had is pretty good too

we enjoyed dinner but it was even more crazy when we went around 10 or 10:30 on a weekend for breakfast. we liked the skillet more at breakfast also ( plated meals at dinner were better than the skillet imo)

Thank you for all the replies. I think this restaurant has definetly moved to the MUST visit list! :teeth:

can't wait to try dinner here in June. It sounds fun and delicious.

It helps if you can egg the staff on. When we had breakfast there in January, I commented to our server, Texas Catfish, that it seemed a bit quiet. She made me get up and lead the entire restaurant in a round of Hokey Pokey.

At one point the servers were poking fun at the Grand Floridian by calling it the Red Roof Inn (I laughed about that all day, and I'm still chuckling about it now).

Here are some suggestions from All Ears Net that you can try:
Wear a Hat or T-Shirt from Universal or Sea World
Ask your server where his 6-shooter is
Tell your server you spent the day at an attraction outside of WDW
Tell the server who's birthday or anniversary it is
Have your kids "egg him/her on"
Have one of the males in the group ask where the restrooms are
Challenge your server to a pistol fight and ask for a gun
Claim your straw is not long enough
Chew gum
Ask the server where you can buy some chewing gum in WDW

And if your group is up to it, go for the bottomless milkshake at $4.79. And ask for a BIG straw for it.

As someone I know once said, there's not a lot of whispering going on at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

This restaurant is very, very loud. When we went it was around 7 pm on a Sunday at the end of a busy MK day - I took my DS8 and my parents.

Well, my son slept through the entire meal and missed all the entertainment, and my parents winced through the entire meal as a lady with a very shrill voice screeched into the PA system for the entertainment - she should have either ditched the microphone (we all would have heard her) or spoken in a normal voice with the microphone. It was painfully loud and the whole meal was uncomfortable - while the food seemed like it would have been good, it's hard to enjoy it when you're wincing all the time. Maybe we were just tired, or maybe we were beside a speaker, but it was just painful. My parents had to resort to wearing earplugs just to get through the meal. My son must have been nearly unconscious to have slept through it (found out later he had the flu).

At no point in the meal could we hear each other to say "pass the butter" or hear what the waitress was saying. We had to use sign language and point to things, the waitress had to bend over so I could try to yell our orders in her ear, but ended up just pointing to what we wanted on the menu.

I'd heard it was rowdy and the kids were okay but the main problem was too loud a voice being used with the PA system. This was really the only disappointing experience we had at WDW.

Maybe we just got there on a bad night with an inexperienced announcer - boy, her voice was SHRILL!! I'm wincing now just thinking about it.

We went in April '05 and loved it...it was a little loud, but nothing bothersome at all...we anticipated that. Kids loved it and even DH became an unsolicited participant to some antics and had a wonderful time :thumbsup2 Food was great, especially the chix pasta dish, huge and tasty  We had had tons of interaction and antics, the highlight of our trip for all of us dining wise.
