Hi all,

I was hoping to get some opinions....I have a reservation at both Whispering Canyon and Kona for one of the days we'll be in MK in May. We will be staying off site, so I was wondering how long it will take us to get to each restaurant from MK, and also, which one people would recommend the most? Thanks so much for any help!

If you're driving from the MK parking lot, it'll take longer to get to your car than once you're in your car driving to either resort OR you can just hop on the resorts' monorail to go to the POLY or the boat to go to WL.

Both are very different and depends if you're going for lunch or dinner. WCC is a more country feel with some "antics" and fun. My poor DD got embarrassed last week when we went for lunch and they sang Happy Birthday to a boy close to her age a few tables over. The server called her over and introduced them...she tried to get them to exchange emails or facebook names!! My dd was so embarrassed (it was kinda funny).

Kona is more of a Pacific/Asian flare and so is the food. Both are quite different so it just depends on what your tastes are.;)

We're going for dinner. We won't be driving b/c we plan to get back to MK to see the parade at 9pm, so we're planning to take the monorail. Any idea how long it takes to get to these restaurants from MK? Also, we have our 8, 6, and 3 year old daughters with us...would one of these be better for the kids? I was really hoping to hear opinions on which one has better food, as my parents are coming with us and my dad likes GOOD food!

I recommend Kona. I love the restaurant and often think it gets overlooked. Kona is just a monorail ride away or you can walk using the pathway from the MK to the POLY. We prefer the food at Kona. We really didn't like the food that much at Whispering Canyon. It was just ok for us. We did think the antics were the fun part, but I can see how it could be annoying and honestly I think it was more fun for us because we were watching the jokes happen to others like ketchup bottles (all the ketchup bottles) being brought to someones table, but I don't think we would want to be the center of attention. Kona also has more food choices that appeal to my family.

Kona will be faster to get to than Whispering Canyon - the monorail comes along more often and is quicker than the boat ride to WL. I like the cuisine at Kona more the Whispering Canyon and its a bit more relaxed. However, Whispering Canyon is alot a fun and the kids will enjoy it more. As far as time goes, 10 min from the MK exit to the Poly, and 20-30 min from the MK exit to WL.

We did both on our last trip...WCC for dinner, Kona for breakfast. We've eaten at WCC three times now. This was the least favorite time for us, and really, the least favorite meal of the trip. Having never been to Kona for dinner, I can't honestly say how it is, but if breakfast was any indication, Kona will be great. I'd pick it!!

I think the food at Kona is much better than WCC, and will be quicker to get to. . But with kids, they may enjoy the antics at WCC better.

I am trying to decide between the 2 as well! Its for my son's birthday, so WCC sounds fun, but if we did Kona we would do the pirates cruise after. I have heard the atmosphere at Kona isn't great, can anyone comment on that?

I think the food at Kona is better, but the atmosphere/theme is probably better at WCC - if you like Western decor & loud antics.

Kona is in the Poly which is a pretty resort, of course, but the restaurant is really just a restaurant - except we liked the chocolate-carved Stich & Lilo! Depending on where you're seated, you could also have a table right next to the railing which is open to the lobby - which happened to us once &, for a good portion of our dinner, some guy leaned against the railing right next to our table. It was quite nice to have his rear practically on our table! :thumbsup2

WCC is more fun but can take longer. The food is okay. We go because we stay at the WL; if we weren't staying there, we probably wouldn't eat there.

That said, if you ask my DD where she'd like to eat when we go back to Disney, her response is WCC! It is fun for kids! And the food is pretty basic.

From the MK, you could get to Kona faster via the monorail. WCC is a boat-ride away, but it's a nice boat-ride! And the WL is a gorgeous resort!!

If I were having a bday celebration for my son, I'd probably choose WCC over Kona simply for the more fun atmosphere - & bottomless milkshakes!!

WCC would be more fun for the kids. We like Kona but there is nothing special for the kids.

We have never been to either but are about to book our ADR's in 6 days. This thread is right on time for us since we were planning to go to both this trip. Thanks!:thumbsup2

The atmosphere at Kona is kind of boring. If you have never been to the Poly, then it might be worth it to walk around the hotel, at least the lobby area (The Great Ceremonial House). The food is good at Kona, but not out of this world. I always book a meal there b/c it is good and convenient. Honestly none of the food at WDW has really wowed me. Maybe CA Grille.

The Tonga Toast for breakfast is amazing.

I agree with everyone else, Kona is closer I have only had breakfast there but it was the best I have had at Disney. Atmosphere does not compare to that of WCC. It's very bland
I am taking my grandsonsto WCC for the first time in May. So excited I know they will love it. Food is ok but really only average like I can get back in NY but to us the atmosphere makes up for it.

i have an adr for kona with my gf. i hear the food is good and we have no kids, so we just want great food.

The food at Kona is excellent!! The skillet we had at WC was nothing but gristle and fat. Neither one has outstanding atmosphere unless you have kids that like riding around the room on stick horses.
