Whispering Canyon or Cafe Mickey - Dinner?

SO here is my dilemma. I have a DD who is 2 1/2 years old. I am rarely able to have a peaceful dinner because she does not stay still. I have resorted to bring my portable dvd player to keep her in her seat - I HATE IT! I love trying new places but it frustrating going out to eat with a child that doesn't stay still.

We went to Disney in March and she stayed still for some of the Character Dining. We are going back in August and while we will do some of the same places, I really want to try different restaurants.

I have chosen most of the places but I am up in the air with Cafe Mickey (dinner) or the Whispering Canyon (dinner). I know that Cafe Mickey is a character dining. We did it for breakfast in March and while the breakfast was fine,I wasn't a real fan of the place. But if it will keep her still so we can eat, I would consider it. My other thought is Whispering Canyon - I figure the music and dancing would keep her entertained. But is it really that loud? We went to Planet Hollywood in March. Now I have been to PH in NYC and Myrtle Beach so I thought I knew how loud it could get but the one in DTD was off the charts. It was unbearable. If I can't hear what the person is saying across from me - then it too loud. Is Whispering Canyon like that?

I would pick Chef Mickey's ANY day over Whispering Canyon. The service is super slow and the "entertainment" gets extremely annoying after an HOUR of waiting for mediocre food. Chef Mickey's moves quickly, the food is decent for buffet, and the characters keep everyone entertained.

It would all depend on what you are up for. Whispering Canyon can get really crazy sometimes and other times it can be not so crazy at all. I have never been at a table that it was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation at dinner. We have had servers that really get into character and some that don't. On one visit, my daughter went to the restroom just before our food arrived and our waiter walked out into the lobby and yelled toward the restroom for her to come for "supper". Something to consider with your daughter, would the distractions entertain her or would they make her more antsy? Character visits at Chef Mickey are quiet, whereas Whispering Canyon is quite rambunctious.

Food at either place is good. If I were rating the food for both of these restaurants, I would give them the same rating.

We just returned from WDW on Tuesday and actually ate dinner last Thursday at Whispering Canyon. I have to say that for the price that we paid for dinner for 4 people ($117), the food was definitely not worth it. We have been there many times before (so we had previous visits to compare it to) and always loved it. We were also there last August and felt that the quality of the food had gone down, but thought maybe we had hit an off night. This trip confirmed for us that the food there no longer met our expectations. We will not be returning anytime soon. That being said, the usual "entertainment" was going on and did get pretty loud. Haven't been to Chef Mickey's for dinner in a long time, but my kids certainly enjoyed it when they were very little.

I usually prefer Chef Mickey's for breakfast, but I would pick CM or any other restaurant (even if it was somewhere I never ate) over Whispering Canyon Cafe. We had one of our three worse experiences/meals at WCC and we won't be going back (and it had nothing to do with the entertainment or lack of).

We have never gone to Chef Mickey's, but we always have a good time at Whispering Canyon. The food is fair, but my children love the wooden horse races and all the fun that goes on there. Very child friendly!!

:wizard: Chef Mickey's is a much better bet over Whispering Canyon. We had two really awful meals at WC and wouldn't recommend it. I think Chef Mickey's , while the food wasn't great, was fun and there was lots of activity. I think your daughter will be entertained and because it's a buffet she can get up and move around .

i have the same problem, mine is 2 and entertainment at the dinner table is a must for him, after about 10 minutes he wants to get out ... and lets us know it... loudly.. LOL.. thanks for the posts this does help :)

I have to agree Chef Mickey. I did not enjoy Whispering Canyon nor did my kids ages 8, 6, and 3. If you aren't fast there won't be enough stick ponies for the races and you may have a screaming child while all the other kids are singing and parading around the resteraunt. The kids ate much better at Chef Mickeys than at WC also. Have fun!

We really enjoyed WC. However, I think the humor there would not really appeal to a 2.5 yr old. My 8 year olds LOVED it. I would go to CM for a toddler. It's nice to have a place to walk around during the meal.
