Whispering Canyon has really gone downhill

With wholesale food prices going up (wheat, corn, and other base materials for food items) expect the food quality to drop even further and prices to continue to rise. Some of this isn't Disney's fault, it's just part of the world we live in today. Prices are going up and businesses (like Disney) are not going to eat the price increases. They are going to pass some of those prices to the consumer (us) and get creative in other ways to benefit themselves.

In my personal opinion we are reaching a point with food prices on Disney property where a rental car and eating off property is enough of a cost savings than eating on property. I know Magical Express and Disney transportation are free, but when you start paying the kind of money for food and beverage on property the rental car becomes more affordable to the point where its a cost savings.

I agree. We have never eaten off property, but this time we got the 40 percent pin, and I cannot justify the cost of the dining plan. For once, I don't want have to worry about maximizing the plan (which really you have to do now if you want to save money), or else you pretty much break even. So this time we are going to venture out of Disney and see what else we can eat out there.

That's opinion, not fact.

I consistently had exceptional service when using the dining plans (both when it did include the tip and now that it does not). My experience is that when paying cash, my service has been uneven and I have experienced the worst Disney service ever.

Most everything on an internet message board is opinion, isn't it? We obviously had different experiences - doesn't negate either one. That's what discussions are for - to share experiences. Like I did say in the original statement - not all servers took advantage of that, but MANY did. Many servers are just not good servers to start with - regardless of whether a person is on the dining plan or not. The packed houses and fast turn over of guests make that a challenging job at Disney - I certainly wouldn't do it!

Many servers are wonderful and continue to do an excellent job at the Disney restaurants.

The food has gotten more expensive over the years, along with everything else at Disney. However, it is getting to the point where you see the total bill and question if the meal was worth that much money, even being at Disney. I suppose the prepaid dining plans do take some of the heat off Disney as people don't realize the cost of the food as much. The higher prices at the restaurants also lead people to think they are saving even more with such plans. But overall the food cost has become a larger part of the vacation budget. Menus have also always changed from time to time, but I guess when people see the higher cost and no longer can get their former favorite item at the restaurant, it hits them even harder.

We have never done the DDP but have been TIW members for many years (back when it was the DDE). The 20% off has always made meals more reasonable at WDW, but we always expect it to be fairly pricey no matter what restaurant.

We had lunch at WCC just a few weeks ago which was our first time there in quite a long time. IMHO I didn't think it went downhill. I never thought it was one of WDW's greatest restaurants but it's not bad. I enjoyed my salad I had for lunch very much actually and it was quite a nice sized portion for me. DD was happy with her kid's meal. We did split a queso dip with chips which was ok, it wasn't great, I would say right on the level of TGI Fridays or Chili's. And if you like their queso, you'll like WCC's. I always thought their food was a bit better than mediocre and this was way before the DDP.

I'd go back for lunch again in a heartbeat. I haven't been there for dinner in a long time so I can't really give an updated opinion about it but I feel the same way about dinner there.

Not bad and it's a fun place to go if you don't mind the antics. This past trip they tried pairing my 12 yr old dd with a boy who was celebrating his 12th bday there. It was a bit embarrassing for her but she played a long. I thought it was a riot, my dd wasn't really happy about it but it's one of those things I'll cherish for a long time! ;) (I have it on video...)
