Whispering canyon for a shy kid?

Is whispering canyon too intense for a shy kiddo? Mine would probably cry if they called her out. I've heard you can opt out of the fun, is that true? Is the food good?

we were tired after traveling all day. We told the waitress that we just want to eat and it was fine. Just let the wait staff know ahead of time what is going on.

Participation is voluntary --and you can let them know upfront that your child doesn't want to participate. The food is good, not great, but good - restaurant is a little loud. The WL is a great resort and fun to visit ...you can take the watercraft over to MK or Contemporary or Ft. Wilderness to extend the experience

We love going first thing in the morning(never been for lunch or dinner). It is a lot more quiet then but the servers are still very entertaining! Just don't ask for ketchup lol and let them know when you get there. But over all we love it there.

There's a coaster thing on your table that you can turn a certain side up to indicate that you aren't feeling playful & just want to eat.

We have been twice for late lunches and both times it was pretty empty and laid back. The last time we did have to get ketchup to and from our table but it was not loud and obnoxiously done...and my son did finally drink enough glasses of Coke to get brought the BIG jar of it but never got the fast pass to the bathroom (which by later that night, he could have used!) LOL

When I took my son he was incredibly shy, unlike his sister. They didn't pick on him but as soon as they started the horse races around the restaurant he was all about it. 4 years later and he still talks about it.

There's a coaster thing on your table that you can turn a certain side up to indicate that you aren't feeling playful & just want to eat.

The coaster thing just didn't work for us. When the whole room is stood up doing the Hokey Cokey we would've looked a bit odd being the only ones sat down. We did feel compelled to join in even though we didn't want to... and the waiter still chucked stuff at us. It just wasn't for us. You live and learn.

My opinion is that the food is not good. We have tried this place several times, which is what we always do before writing it off as "not good" and "not going back".
You can opt out of the "fun". The best way to do it is to tell the host/hostess that you want to try the restaurant, but you are not really interested in the gimmicks and ask for a table in a corner where you are not in the middle of the action.

They kind of left us alone. They could probably tell. I think the worst thing was we got straws thrown when we asked for straws. It might be intense if a child doesn't understand why, if they are very observant to others behaviors. We didn't engage, it's not really our thing, well at least for me and DH. We didn't think the food was all that great, or the experience. Not that it was bad, just thought it pricey for the food/experience. The kids thought things were funny and were watching things going on.

Food is ok, for us it is all about the fun and antics. My kids and nieces loved seeing their Grandpa and dads do I'm a little tea pot. And the napkin hat on Grandma.

You can opt out! They give you a coaster that is green on one side and red on the other. You can change it around too if she decides she wants to take part. From the times I've been I haven't noticed them singling out kids really, more talking to tables as a whole. They put one table in jail while we were there which was really funny. Then they do the pony 'race' for kids so a lot is really more as a group. I like the food, it's not the best food at disney but its pretty good. The bottomless milkshakes are so good!

My daughter didn't want to participate either. It wasn't an issue. Just let the server know.

I also think mornings are a bit tamer too.

You can ask to be seated along the perimeter where your son has more of a view of the action instead of being in the middle of it.

None of it sounds like fun to me, and I can't imagine wanting to be there. And I'm way older than 13.

I wouldn't do it. It's overwhelming and not fun - even as an adult.

My fairly shy DS9 hated WCC and 50's Prime Time. It was just too loud and too chaotic. If you want a WCC atmosphere without the chaos, maybe consider Trail's End at Ft. W. It's much quieter, it still has the western atmosphere, food is good and my DS loves visiting the stables and playing on the playground there. We also love Artist Point - great food and you still get the beautiful atmosphere of WL. We are staying at WL in August and WCC is not on our list of places to eat!

I'm grown and I know it'd be something I'd hate. I would have hated it a lot more as a kid. Its super loud when I've been to WL.

When we went our kids were about 8 years old and my daughter was super shy! when she asked for a straw all of the waiters came over and threw straws at us...she was embarrassed but she started to have fun. I guess it depends on how shy your munchkins are...maybe if you participate in the fun they won't be so shy? it's certainly an experience not to miss at least once!
