My group of 6 will be in WDW and would like to know how the Whispering Canyon Cafe is. The food? Atmosphere? I really would like to check out the WL and why not eat while we are there?:) Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!:)

My hubby and I love it there. We did exactly the same thing years ago. We went there for dinner and fell in love with the Lodge. We told ourselves that SOME DAY we would stay there. We have since gone back for dinner many times and will experience our third stay at the resort in a few weeks. The food is great. the atmosphere is fun. take your sense of humor or ask for a quiet area if you are not in the mood for a laughing good time. We find the fun to be a great addition to the meal. Enjoy........:D

DisneyFan79, WCC is a good place to eat if you like somewhat LOUD fun. They do have a "quiet corner", if you want that.

I've found lunch there to be better than dinner -- just my preference.

Some of the servers can be quite "interactive" with guests. Here are some fun things you can try, but be warned -- the results can be highly amusing and maybe just very slightly embarrassing. These are also NOT guaranteed to work every time.

1. Ask for ketchup (even if you don't want it).
2. Ask your server where their six-shooter is (they don't use the word GUN)
3. Ask for Pepsi or a Pepsi-cola product (anything non-Coke)
4. Ask where you can buy GUM at WDW
5. Ask for directions to Universal Studios
6. Wear a hat or t-shirt from Universal or loudly discuss the GREAT TIME you had visiting Universal Studios today
7. Ask for directions to the rest rooms
8. Ask to participate in the pony express race
9. If you have a special event: anniversary, birthday, whatever, tell them. With any luck you will become the CENTER OF ATTENTION, possibly for the entire meal! :p

Have fun!

We think the WCC is a lot of fun! It's definatley a rowdy atmosphere, though. We like all the meals, but breakfast is probably our favorite. We like the sandwhiches at lunch, too. It's a fun way to check out the Wilderness Lodge. You can take the boat over from the Magic Kingdom. It's a nice break from the park.

Whispering Canyon is one of those polarizing restaurants that brings out wildly differing opinions. We happen to like it very much. We were there last in July; there were six of us, and we'd just been drenched in a sudden downpour. Our girls were freezing, so they said, and our server made a big production out of draping them both in blankets from the hotel. Pretty doggone funny. It is loud and raucous, and if that's an issue for y'all, steer clear!

We always get the skillets. My only mild complaint was that the ribs took a good bit of gnawing, but the flavor was fine. If you're an unrepentant carnivore, you should manage nicely. The pulled pork was exceptionally moist and tender. Noticing where you're from (native Alabamian here), it's not as good as Dreamland in B'ham or Tuscaloosa, etc., which is the last word in ribs for me.

As a plus, take some time to stroll around the WL. Disney lodging at its finest, I should say.

Well, if you are looking for a loud, raucous, sometimes off color time, this would be the place to go! We weren't overly impressed by the food, either. To each his own!

As we walk past "Whispering" Canyon on our way to Artist Point, I always say to myself--"Thank goodness I'm not eating there"!

We enjoyed the food and we didn't have to endure any pranks at our table. Do you request "the quiet corner" when you check-in?

It wasn't our favourite restaurant. I think the 'carnivore' comment was very accurate, :) my dh is, I am not. Two of our dkids liked the pony express ride but the middle dd (7) just thought it was a waste of time, she was busy eating her dinner. ;)

Yes yes uncleromulus I know you dislike this place immensely....I KNEW you were going to pan it, but I'm sure you knew I would give it my usual thumbs up.

We love it here. It's not gourmet, but just loads of fun and good hearty grub! DH LOVES the all you can eat skillet for dinner. I like the chicken and pork chops and the antics...

However if you want peace and quiet DON'T GO HERE!!!!

Truth is, it always seems quite full, so I suspect I'm in the minority.

In the minority, perhaps, but not alone. ;)

I agree with Erikarate on one point; stay away from WCC if you want a peaceful relaxing meal.

Ah Ricola.. wondered where you had been. I too, agree with Ericarate... if you want a peaceful, and relaxing meal, avoid this place like the plague!
