Whispering Canyon Cafe...worth it?

I have a question. My DH and I will be going there in a few weeks! Can I order the skillet but ask for certain things to be left off, even from the start? I thought I read you could do this a while back but now I can't remember.

For instance, I order the skillet but I don't want them to bring out the coleslaw portion at all because I know I won't like it...will this be okay?

:thumbsup2

First time we were there they brought out everything, next time we told them- hold the coleslaw, beans, bread and chicken and bring on the ribs. LOL and they did so happily.

I say,"try it!" You're on vacation at:tink:WDW,how could you lose??? Have a great time,I'll be watchin' for your review!

I am sure they would. My son has food allergies and they bring him a separate skillet and leave off the stuff he can't have. They even did that when he was 2y.o. and eating for free. I have been very impressed with disney and how they accomodate different diets. It one big reason we have become disney junkies.

Just for example, a friend and I were on a business trip in orlando a little over a year ago. She too has food allergies (wheat/gluten), and can't eat at japanease restaurants where they cook in front of you except the one in Epcot because they accomodate her allergy. So, we went there for dinner. I ordered just veggies and rice because I usually get too full to eat the meat. They thought that I was vegetarian and asked if it would be ok if they cooked her meat on the grill before they cooked my veggies so that her food would not get contaminated. Of course it was fine because I am not a vegetarian. But, she and I were VERY impressed that they would be so concerned about my food not touching meat even though being vegetarian is a lifestyle choice and not a medical condition. So, all of that to say that Disney is very accomodating even if it is not a medical condition. However, considering the atmosphere at Whispering Canyon, you might get a little kidding around from your waiter for asking. :)

If you're choosing this over a Kona breakfast then you should eat at WCC and use your table credit and pay out of pocket for the kona breakfast. You would only spend about $25-30 for two at Kona for a breakfast and up to $70for dinner at WCC. Definatly get your moneys worth anyway. just a thought...check out the menus for both at allears.net.

my family and I went to WCC on our most reccent trip down. We had heard rave reviews from some close friends of ours so we decided to give it a try. The food was delicious (my little sister still raves about the steak to this day). The only thing that I didn't like about it was the fact that our party was split up. Me, my sister, and our boyfriends got stuck in the back room. I felt like we were out of the loop, as we were sitting and eating we could hear the fun and games being had in the other room but we weren't allowed to participate :guilty:. Our waiter was fabulous and as I said so was the food. So I guess I would say go for it, just watch out for the "back room".

my niece and i are going in august and staying at the wilderness lodge. we've never been to whispering canyon and i was thinking we might do dinner there one night. is it worth it?
If you are staying at the WL and you have an interest, then give it a try. Personally, there are better places to dine in the MK resort area. WCC would be on the bottom of the list.

i was thinking about not going to WCC but we've made the reservation and i think i'll stick with it. it will *hopefully* be a fun way to start off our trip. I figured since we haven't done it yet might as well be able to check it off our list. lol. we've been to most of the restaurants in the area - artists point, narcoossee's, citricose, california grill, kona cafe, ohanah...etc..etc..

and my niece is looking forward to it too. :) i'd hate to disappoint her lol

Hated it -- awful food and awful service (over two hours and we never even bothered with dessert). We won't go back.

But everyone has different tastes/experiences/expectations and if it is something you want to try then you should try it.

I would say go...especially since you are staying at WL. Each time I have been to Disney, I always plan a dinner at WCC.
The last time I was in Disney, me and my boyfriend (now husband) had dinner there...I wanted him to see the resort and I thought the antics and atmosphere would be fun for him. He loved it! He thought it was hilarious...he purposely asked for ketchup (so that he would receive like 20 jars) & was excited about getting the HUGE drink glass when he asked for a refill!
During past visits to WCC, I was with a larger party with children, etc. but we had just as much fun just the 2 of us! We got the skillet and thought it was really good...a good variety of food for our tastes!

We are eating there on Sunday. I'll let you know what I think. We are staying at WL as well so we might as well eat there!

I made a ressie for a friend of mine and his whole family in a coupl of weeks. He hasn't told the family they do fun stuff so he's looking forward to the surprise.
Does anyone know if I stop at the podium earlier that day and request that they don't go easy on them will they listen??

Wouldn't say I would never eat there again but I wouldn't be in any major hurry, I thought it was over rated.

OP, sounds like you've made your decision and are going to give it a try.

Personally, it's the only restaurant in WDW that I have no desire to return to, but I think you are wise to try it for yourself. We all have different tastes, and obviously it's a busy and successful restaurant that many people like, so the worst thing that happens is you don't enjoy it and you learn a minor lesson. On the other hand, you may love it and have a new favorite. Deciding for yourself is a sure-fire way to know for sure!

Have fun.

I've eaten there twice & loved it both times. The antics were very mild the 1st time & hilarious the 2nd time. (We were actually laughing out loud.) The food was delicious both trips & even my picky eater DMom really enjoyed it.

What are the "antics" that go on there?

WCC is a must do for my family we are from GA and love BBQ. So it fits our taste and I have picky eaters. The atmosphere is a blast the service is rude but in a funny way We always get the skillet great ribs and chick, brisket is awesome. bottomless shakes yum. I have to wait until Feb. RATS! but I love the mouse.
