Whispering Canyon: Are late lunches still fun??

We've never been to WC before. Our 8yodd has heard me talk about it and has seen pictures here on the DIS of the "big food" as she calls it.:lmao: and really wants to eat there on our upcoming trip. Has anyone eaten a late lunch there, like around 1:30 or 2:00? If so, was it still fun? Were the wait staff "into it" and did they have the stick horse rides at that time, etc.??

The reason I ask is because we did a late lunch character meal in the past at another restaurant and there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant, there were dirty, empty table all about, and the characters and staff were like "enough already, let's just get this done with"...... we want to have a very fun experience at WC and are wondering if it will still be fun during the late lunch hour.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.:thumbsup2

I think we did a late lunch/early dinner, I'm thinking around 3or so. It was dead in there, and no interaction whatsoever. But I've read so much here, that I book a 5 pm dinner to see what all the hype is. Like I said, my girls I'm sure asked for ketchup and I don't remember anything happening.... we'll see this time!

We had a late lunch there about 2 years ago, around 3 I think. It stunk. We had no interaction at all and the place was dead. We are going to try it again on our upcoming trip, but we are going to do an early lunch or a dinner.

Even when it's busy a lot will depend on your server. There's no guarantee you'll get one who's into it.

I'm not sure time is the factor as much as the staff on duty at the time you visit along with the guest. Our experience was around 1:00-1:15. They do not fully staff for lunch nor do they use the entire dining room, so we had to wait for a table. We were seated on the edge of what defined the lunch seating area along with two other families. Our waitress (+ side kicks) were consumed with a large table, adjacent to ours, who were going down a checklist of must-do-gags. Sort of felt like they were asking a dog to do tricks on vocie commands.

Another key aspect of our adjacent-needy table was that they were all drunk but Disney kept on selling them more drinks. We are seeing a lot more of Disney excessively selling guest drinks beyond their limits in the past years too. I few staggered away before the entire table cleared out, but then the two of them stood in the lobby railing yelling back at the others still at the table and holding the stretched drink glasses to the sides of their heads like they were reindeer antlers. :sad2:

Looking over at the other families that were sat at their tables the same time we were it was easy to see by looking at their table along with their faces we were having the same expereince. No one was provided any level of service beyond getting you your initial drinks and salty food...besides the table of drunks. Not a positive experience for us.

We had a good experience with a late lunch just last month. It wasn't as full blown as the dinner show but still entertaining. My nephew asked for another water and the waiter brought over a huge mason jar for him. He also did the horse race for the kids. We were one of the last reservations and the restaurant was only half full but we still enjoyed it.

I've said it before and it seems particularly applicable to the WC in particular, but this is a big negative effect of the proliferation of information on internet boards like this. It seems like nobody is willing to have an original vacation of their own. They're too preoccupied with running down a checklist of things they've read on the internet.

Oooh, let me add that to my trip planning checklist: "don't get preoccupied with things I read on fan sites."

Hey if one person reads that and steps back from such hyper-planning, then it was worth posting.
By the way, sarcasm isn't allowed here - that violation can earn you 10 points.

The lunch at WCC is a "normal" lunch. They do all the "interaction" for the dinner crowd. You can call DD to see when the first dinner time and make your reservation for then. Your Daughter will love the horse racing and towel waving. Make sure you ask for some ketchup. :rotfl2:
