I have been paying $12.00 a month to Bank of America in fees and now I think that i would like a free, or even interest bearing checking account Do you bank at a national bank and do you have free checking. Thanks for helping me overhaul my finances!

What?
I bank with Fleet...which is now Bank of America (they bought out Fleet.)
I only have a checking account.
I pay no fees whatsoever.
checking is free.
However, if my balance goes below $1500, I'll pay $10 a month. (or $8 a month if I have direct deposit on my paycheck).

Is this the case with what you have? that you have to keep a certain balance - or are you charged regardless? I've had this account for at least 5 years now...only thing I've ever paid for are the actual checks.

No fees at att our Cred Union except for check printing charges.

herc.

No fees at Sovereign, except for if you use a non Sovereign ATM or if you use your debit card to get cash back.

I have always had the $6.00 fee for no min checking and $5.95 to have our car, auto and home deducted per month, as they insist on arranging with bank to get a lower rate, I can make it part of bill pay for higher a month. I just saw offers for free and interest bearing checking and thought I am throwing this money away! I have not heard of Soverign, are they big on the East Coast?
