Trying to decide between dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe or Coral Reef for a party of 4 that includes 5 & 12 year old boys. Which has better food etc.

just got back today. ate at both. for the boys i would do WCC. it was fun and normal food for them. Coral Reef was good but food was pricey and kinda different for kids. mostly seafood dishes w/ tropical flair. if they arent open to new tastes i would skip CR. saw alot of kids turning up their noses at the food delivered to their tables. Coral Reef was dark.

We really liked BOMA. excellent service and really good food.

Coral Reef is excellent, the experience at WCC is fun but for food quality and lovely surroundings, Coral Reef every time for me.

This is like comparing apples to oranges. They are VERY different restaurants. The WC is loud, BBQ, interactive. The CR is quiet, seafood, laid back. Personally we don't like loud and interactive, so we would choose the Coral Reef. I think only you know your kids well enough to decide what kind of food they eat and if they would "get into" the atmosphere of the WC. My boys are very shy and would much rather look for the fish in the aquarium. Honestly, the food at both is very good, it is just completely different menus at each.

I totally agree! We ate at both our last trip & they are completely different experiences. Loud, fun, very good, family style BBQ = WC
Relaxing, wonderful atmosphere by a fish tank with very good seafood= Coral Reef.
We enjoyed both dining experiences very much but have chosen only to re-visit The Coral Reef the next trip.

Definitely Whispering Canyon! I'm not a fan of CR, and I can find better seafood at home :)

I think that WCC would be a better choice for the two boys. They'll have a lot of fun there.

I deffinately agree that it's like comparing apples to oranges....we love both for different reasons. Our kids like both....although they prefer WCC...just alot of fun!:)

Whispering Canyon is a fun place. The servers are loud and funny and you never know what they will say or do! The food is good- tasty BBQ. The Coral Reef has ok seafood and a quiet atmosphere where it is nice to look at the fish. As others have stated-- two very different experiences. If I am eating in Epcot I prefer the restaurants in WS over Coral Reef. Have a great trip!:wizard:

we are doing both on our next trip. DH remembers walking by Coral Reef on our last trip but the wait time was toooooo long so we kept going but DH asked about it for this trip so I made an ADR! And as for Whispering Canyon, DD loves her some katsup... and the only thing she knows about this restaurant is it's location!:rotfl:

Our family will be going to both during our trip. Coral Reef is more for the adults, and I know the kids will enjoy WC. Enjoy your trip!:thumbsup2

We're doing both this trip, on the same day. Thought I'd share :)

We picked WCC for our family welcome lunch (we're only eating 3 as a big family with the 3 of us, plus my grandparents, plus my dad) and Coral Reef as our little anniversary meal that night.

My family would choose CR. They hated WCC. It really is a matter of choice, I agree with a PP who said that laid back and quieter atmosphere: choose CR, like a noisy interactive meal, choose WCC.

As a family we'd choose the much better food and aquarium of CR. My boys love animals so are fascinated by the tanks.

The food at WCC is absolutely dreadful. The boys like it less and less. I'd only go if on DDP, otherwise I would feel ripped off (more than Disney usual, lol). And note: we have never, in 4 times eating there, had a "fun" server. My boys LONG to be the object of a ketchup pile up or any other shenanigans and no server has ever obliged them.

Which one will fit most effortlessly into your schedule? If you're staying at the Wilderness Lodge and planning an EPCOT day, then either would work. When I picked my ADRs I considered all the options near each park, and unfortunately and/or fortunately there were so many restaurants near and in the Magic Kingdom that I wanted to try, Whispering Canyon Cafe didn't make the list. EPCOT has the same deal, except Coral Reef interests me the most of all the restaurants in and around EPCOT. If all else fails, make your decision based on accessibility, because you're going to have people who love and hate both places.

On a side note: If I was taking young boys to Disney, I would take them to Whispering Canyon Cafe, because I think they would enjoy it more, but that's in reference to the boys I know in my life.

I really do not get when people say they food is so bad at the WCC...It is not fancy...The food is simple and the menu is small...You need to know that going in...But the food is not bad...We have been several times over the past several years...We do enjoy breakfast the most because the food is very yummy at breakfast time...Lunch and dinner are good...I agree the food is nothing to write home about...But I am just so confused by the people that think it is bad...

On the other hand...I think the atmosphere is something to write home about...We love the setting of the lodge...We enjoy the servers...And we love the lively atmosphere, especially with kids...We do not have to remind the boys every two minutes to keep their voices down like we do at most other places...They are free to laugh, sing and be happy in a fun place...They have enjoyed their meals each time they have been and so have we...

One time I had a dessert that was not great...It was not bad...It just was not what I expected...One bad item out of several visits is not a bad average...

This is just my thoughts and please do not flame me...I just don't get the really harsh words about the food :confused3

Our family really enjoys CR- and we don't eat seafood! Good steaks, pork, and chicken dishes that our whole family likes.
We like watching the fish/turtles/divers in the tank and the atmosphere is much more relaxing. That is a must for us we like our meals to be just that good food and relaxing to get us a break from the noisy fast pace of the parks.
We have had a good lunch at WCC and it was not so loud and busy then.
Look at the menus and see what sounds better for your family.

Bev

We've done both. DS14, DD10 and DS6 all prefer Coral Reef. WC is o.k. Food is nothing special and the kids weren't terribly impressed by the antics.
