Which would you pick at MGM?

I just booked the free dining package for Sept 14 and made my ADR's this morning for DD8 and I; no problems at all getting everything at the time I wanted. I was going to book the FDP at Brown Derby but it's 2 credits so I booked Hollywood & Vine instead. When I talked to DD8 this afternoon and asked her if there was anything she really wanted to do again that we did on our Nov trip the only thing she wanted was Sci Fi. This will be her 2nd trip to WDW and probably last for a long time.

Now I'm wondering if having the reserved seating for Fantasmic and/or the food at Hollywood & Vine is worth it? Or should we go to Sci Fi per DD's request? (Paying out of pocket is not an option due to major budget restrictions) Which would you do?

I guess you have to weigh your priorities regarding food and fun. If it's more fun for you two to get reserved seats for Fansasmic, do that. If it's more fun for you two at Sci Fi, do that. I've never eaten either one so can't comment on the food. We always get seating for Fantasmic without a package in the off season but never tried during a free DDP offer. We will be trying to get into Fantasmic this September a few days after you. May both our families have good luck with that Maybe we can take our desserts to go and eat them while awaiting Fantasmic...

I suggest you keep you fantasmic dinner package (though we always choose Mama Melrose because we like the food a little better there) and then make reservations at Sci-Fi just for dessert. The food still isn't very good at SF but the ambience is cool!

Dis makes it complicated but SiFI is fun. The food is basic but if you like Ham &FF basically that is it. We like it (older SC) and observe kids loving the movies. Enjoy, l don't think the kids will like the other choices. Have fun

I have the same dilemma - I made ADR for H&V Fantasmic package, but I haven't read many good reviews of the food. DH doesn't like Italian, so no Mama Melroses, and I don't want to use 2 TS for Brown Derby. I'm starting to rethink my plans also. But instead of Sci-Fi or any other MGM restaurant, none of which seem to get great reviews, I'm thinking of skipping the Fantasmic package and using my last TS for some place completely different. Anyone out there think Boma is a can't miss? Or any other suggestions for my last TS? I already have Le Cellier, Teppanyaki, Crystal Palace, and Hoop-De-Doo. Thanks!

IMO, other than the Brown Derby, Mama Melrose is by far the best of the lot at MGM.

Having never eaten at Hollywood and Vine, I can't really say whether or not it's a "must eat"...However, having done Fantasmic 2x without the dinner package, Fantasmic is definitely do-able (we got there about an hour early) without special seating.

My kids loved the Sci Fi too, and if they asked me to eat there again, I think I'd have to do it!
