50's Prime Time Diner or Sci Fi with a first time Disneyworlder?:confused3

depends...
haven't tried 50's primetime but will be there next week :)

however I wouldn't go back to sci fi. We disliked not being able to sit together and talk. My 3 year old was really scared of the movies on the screen haha and the food wasn't too great. We are also pescatarians so we didn't get to enjoy the burgers and milkshakes!

BUT if I didn't have two young children and if we ate burgers/chicken I probably would have had a better time

I have done both. If I had to choose it would be the 50's Prime Time.

It depends if the person would find the "teasing" fun 50's prime time, if (as it would me) it would embarise them sci fi.

I think SciFi is at it's best for lunch if you are a burger and fry type. If that is not your plan or you don't want burgers than go to 50's PT but make sure you are up for the antics. If neither options works for you then consider going to one of the nearby resorts.

How old is the first time Disneyer? Adults seem to like the 50's Diner better and kids seem to like the Sci Fi Diner. My kids were so taken in by the Sci Fi that we had to keep reminding them to eat. My husband got a real kick out of the 50's Diner.

It all depends on who the first timer is.

I can't stand the "antics" at the 50's prime time diner - so no matter how good the food is I won't be going there.

Sci Fi - my kids loved it!! We're going back in a weeeeek!!!!!! :cool1:

Ew ... neither. IMO, both have substandard food. I guess the slight nod would go to Sci-Fi because of the cool setting. Avoid the ribs.

Our whole family hated Sci-Fi & loved 50's Prime Time. We thought food was sub-par & had terrible service at Sci-Fi. As a family of 5, it was just wierd to sit in rows, looking at the backs of my kids' heads.

At 50's, we had a server with just the right amount of teasing. He made DD16 set the table (just pass out silverware & napkins) and buss the table (stack dirty dishes at corner), said DD6 was his fave so she could do whatever she wanted, including not cleaning her plate & putting her elbows on the table. DD11 was nervous about being picked on. He picked up on that & didn't tease her much at all. A really rowdy & rude kid was sitting next to us & our server just gave them straight up service without any antics. :rotfl:

We won't return to Sci-Fi but 50's, which both DH & I were skeptical of, is on our list to return to next trip. It was our fave meal of entire 9 day trip last summer.

Haven't been to 50's but my son (4) only remembers that restaurant and asked to go back. You can get glow-in-the-dark cups with blinkie ice cubes that both kids thought were awesome. We had burger/fries food and I was happy with it.

I am too shy for '50s, so I'd vote for Sci-Fi. Although the food is not terrific, there's nothing else like it!

I would do 50's PTC and not tell them what they are in for. LOL.

I like to do that on my trips with new people.

:lmao:

I'm not a fan of the seating at the SciFi but thought that the burger and fries were good. OTOH, the family really likes PT. Your "experience" while dining is certainly the luck of the draw. We've been blessed, for the most part, with charming and witty servers who seem to enjoy the whole spiel. We really only had one "dud" and his lack of enthusiasm didn't change the taste of the food:goodvibes I find their fried chicken to be passable and that's high praise from a true southern gal.:rotfl:

50's was AWESOME in our opinion. In fact, it's one of the very few "re-do" things on our list for next time....otherwise we want to try new stuff.

Both restaurants have unique atmospheres, but I recommend 50's Prime Time. The food quality at Sci-Fi ranges from palatable to inedible.

50's if it's dinner. The food is much better. We have had lunch at SciFi, the burgers are decent, but it wouldn't be a spot I'd pick for dinner.

Sci-Fi for us. We got a bum waitress at our trip to 50s. She wasn't any fun. The children had heard all about the place and after a while they started throwing little hints at her hoping for some mama reaction. She still never responded, and they were bummed out. I wasn't as impressed at the food either. We all thoroughly LOVED the Sci-Fi. We LOVED the food there. It was on our do again list. 50s wasn't "bad", and the food wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything to write home about. It IS however one of the few places you can order Ratatouille, so if your children are fans of the movie that could be a plus, and since that's what I ordered, it was OK. Worth ordering, just nothing special. But then I rarely ever get a bad meal anywhere on Disney property.
