Help me decide!

We have DS (4) and DD (3) travelling with us.

I'm leaning towards AKL because we will be staying at the GF this Christmas and it's the most expensive plus I would prefer to be in a Disney resort rather than Dolphin (I think - even though I have never stayed there!)

Thanks for any advice.

AKL savannah view....the kids will enjoy the animals and the AKL has a nice pool....
and overall it's an interesting hotel...

given that you've already stayed at the GF, the AKL will be new and different....(and you don't have to switch buildings)....

i've never stayed at the swan or dolphin so i can't comment on whether they're preferable or not...

Thanks, Beth. I like the look of AKL and it will be nice to try a different resort, plus as this trip is quite short we will probably only visit one or two parks and will spend a lot of time just relaxing in the sunshine :sunny: - the AKL pool looks great.

I'm just trying to persuade DH that we 'need' concierge this trip ;) Although I think we will have to suffice with a standard room!

:wave2:

I would choose AKL since you will be at the GF later in the year and the Dolphin Club level is not worth that price. It's a standard Sheraton Executive Lounge.

Wow, thanks for letting me know. I would have been a bit disappointed if I booked club level at The Dolphin expecting a concierge lounge like at the Disney resorts. Thanks Robin :)

AKL concierge is coming up as $425/night  and that is pool/savannah view - so no guarantee it will definitely be overlooking the savannah  I think we're sticking with a regular savannah view room :)

If I had the resources, I would choose AKL with the savannah view. What a coll thing to be able to see the animals at anytime. Plus the kids will love it. Whatever choice you make, you will have a blast!:wave2:

Good luck on your trip!!

I would go with Animal Kingdom Lodge! Your children will love waking up and seeing the animals eating right off your balcony. I had trouble getting my DS (9 years old) off the balcony to do anything else. I am already thinking about my next trip, and he will not hear of staying anywhere else. They have artificial moonlight at night, so you can see the animals after dark also. Just remember that they DO NOT allow balloons in this resort. If you try to bring one in, they will take it from you. With your children's ages this would be important-I'm sure they like balloons!

Thanks for your replies!

I have decided to definitely go with AKL Savannah view!

Just trying to convince DH for a concierge savannah view as for this trip we will be spending more time 'chilling' out at the resort and less time touring round the parks, so I think we would make good use of the concierge benefits, but at almost $200/night extra it seems a bit steep.

Connor&Cody'sMom-
Yep, DS and DD l-o-v-e balloons LOL - thanks for letting me know they aren't permitted at the lodge. Oh, and welcome to the boards! :)

Shardiva-
Have a great trip too! :)

Thanks for the "shout out"! We will have a great time. I love seeing the face on someone who has never been to WDW! My DH did that with me when we wen to Las Vegas. I want to share WDW with him! Enjoy the trip and wave "Hi" to the animals for me. LOL:smooth:

Peace,
Sharon

Managed to twist DH's arm into letting us try concierge this trip :teeth: So we have a savannah view concierge room booked for 6 nights this August and I can't wait!!

I've never tried concierge at Disney before so I am seriously excited!

Time to get some more planning done!

Thanks for your replies :wave2:

AKL is our favorite so far....I wish I could live there!! Can't wait to return, we've been back for 2 months and I can still remember the wonderful aromas in the lobby coming from Boma & Jiko. We have stayed at POR and WL, but as soon as we arrived at AKL, we knew we found our home away from home!!!!

While I would never personally pay $1200 more  for concierge anywhere, I hope you have a great time  Check out the "Bitten by the Concierge Bug" thead that always seems to be at the top of the Resorts Board. If you wade through the chatting :chat: you'll find some good information and they welcome like-minded people :wave2:. They will help you utilize the conceirge services to the maximum. The only thing that might make me book concierge is the special safaris that are open only to concierge guests. Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and book AKL concierge for the weekend. If so, I'd be drinking plenty of "free" wine to make it worthwhile! ::yes::

It was the fact that we would be spending lots of time at the resort and not much time in the parks on this trip which made me try and persuade DH for concierge. Plus, like you said, the Sunrise Safari sounds wonderful and I can't wait to try it out. :)
