Which week in Dec would you do?

I'm just about done calling day-by-day for my Dec. 1-8 reservation. Now, I hear alot of chatter about Pop Warner week. Would I be crazy to go then? It would be no big deal to go the week after. Guess I just have to cancel that first week and start the day by day calling again.

Juliet, go over to the main DIS forums and I think there are a number of threads about POP Warner and cheerleaders. I think there was one on the resturant forum about a rather unpleasant evening someone spent at Crystal Palace.

Personally, if I was able to avoid that hoard I would. The kids are probably not as bad as the chaperones!

We did Dec. 1-7th this past December. We chose that week b/c we honeymooned the same week 8 years ago and LOVED it. That trip in 1998, we stayed at the BW. We waited in minimal lines and the weather was perfect. I don't think the Pop Warner thing was going on in '98, at least not during that week.

This past trip, we stayed at Pop. It was a bit more crowded than it was at the BW. We also waited in a few more lines, but with effective use of fast passes, we were fine! We made our ADR's 150 days out. You couldn't get in anywhere for lunch or dinner last minute (I did have friends we were with get into the Crystal Palace for breakfast within 24 hours of calling for it.) The worst day was that Friday and Saturday in the MK. They were filming parts of the Christmas parade that day(s).

Bottom line, we'll be doing that week again. We actually call it "our" week. I believe you will be happy. We sure were (both times)!! :woohoo:

Thanks! :thumbsup2 I think we'll go ahead and keep our dates. I've done too much so far to give up my BW view studio.

Heck, if we have a bad time, it's just an excuse to come back sooner. ;)

We did the first week of Dec 2005. We stayed at an All-Star, and there were lots of teenagers. Everyone was friendly. Although apprehensive at first, my then-4-year-old son rode Big Thunder Mountain 5 times in a row (no lines) specifically because the cheerleaders were having a ball encouraging him to ride. We made a game with them to rush back on the line to ride again and again. MK for taping the Christmas parade was a bit much for me. But I avoided Main Street, and did the rides while everyone tried to mug for the cameras. It worked out well. Enjoy!

Thank god I read this thread. What is POP warner and when are the cheerleaders gone?

I've stayed at BWV many times during that week and Pop Warner was at WDW. It was never a big deal to us other than some irritating cheerleaders breaking into chants in the middle of the parks or screaming their lungs out for no reason (as soon as the door closed on ToT). Tomorrow I'm booking the final night of Dec 1 to 7, it's a great week to go.

The mere chance of hearing a bunch of prepubescent teens break in to cheers while in line makes my skin crawl, not to mention the herds of unchaperoned teens running and tripping people at the rope drop ceremonies.

I'll wait a week.

-thanks for the warning.

We were at OKW last month from the 2-12, and the Pop Warner kids are not that much of an issue in the parks, and certainly not at a DVC resort. We did have a couple of issues with them in the parks 2 years ago, but that too was minimal.

Ditto. And not just in the parks but at the airport on our way home! Cheerleaders are loud. :)

Go you will have a great vacation.

We were not booked that week. We may be looking at the following week.

We've never been down for the Christmas celebration. How's the weather?

I went Dec 2 to 8, 2005. One day it hit 80, but the rest of the days were in the high 60s to low 70s. We needed a fleece jacket for the nights. Lots of layers and a backpack are needed if you are doing a day into night park touring. It sure beat the 20s NY had that winter! This winter in NY is another story...

We've been to WDW the last years during POP week. We have never had a problem with them. I think it would be more of a problem at the value resorts. We saw and heard none of them at the VWL or the Contemporary.

I completely agree. When we were flying home, we sat next to a couple who stayed at the All-Star Sports, and they said that cheerleaders were doing chants outside at 3 am. So, they moved to the All-Star Music, and had a better experience. Chanting cheerleaders at 3 am is not something I see happening at a DVC.
