Just wondering which water park you think is the best? I'll be with my DD whose 8.

We like them both different reasons:

My DD's prefer the wave pool at TL

The family raft ride is better at BB.

I think that the kids play area for an 8 year old is probably getter at BB - at least if he is a strong swimmer.

You'll have a great time no matter which one you choose. :D

We have been to both and our families favorite is Typhoon Lagoon. My kids love the wave pool and we love the tropical setting.

The eternal debate of "which water park is better" is pretty subjective, of course. I always like to point out "why" I like TL better. I'm a pasty-white redhead, while my wife is a sun-bunny. BB has far less foliage. Also, we're 40ish, and I've found BB to be more geared towards a teenagers. Not that BB isn't for adults, but it's more attractive to a 15 year old than TL for some reason.

TL has dense trees, and many, many, many places where my wife and I can sit next to one another and have her in the sun and me in the shade. And Castaway Creek, to me, is one of Disney's greatest inventions since the Cinderella's Castle. The wife, on the other hand, will sit in the wave pool for hours.

What we like BETTER about BB: First and foremost, if you're into raft rides, the large raft ride at BB is untouched, as versus TL's raft rides are kind of short. Also important: The ski lift at BB is much less taxing than the hundreds of feet you'll walk in a day, up cement steps, to do several rounds on the TL slides.

In the end, for us there are more plusses with TL. I think your 8 y/o DD will be very happy with either, as will you!

The wave pool at TL is great but the rides at BB seem more fun. DD (15) & I are heading to WDW in October (1st trip alone, Mother & Daughter, no friends) & DD told me that without a friend to go on all the "big" rides with at BB (I'm a whimp), she'd rather spend the day at TL...she says there's more to do. That's just our opinion...hope it helps.

I'm a TL fan. We go to TL twice each trip rather than BB and TL.

Agree with analysis of previous posters.

Oh, I love a question like this!
I have only been to Typhoon Lagoon but we are going to Blizzard Beach in August so we can compare. All I had to go on was the brochures on each.
Here's why we (me and DW and DD5) just loved TL:
Really cool photo op with the TL Aligator cement statue when you enter.
Lots of shade like the poster above said.
Neat beach like decorations.
Wave pool, very cool.
The endless river (lazy river, whatever you call the slow moving river you just lounge in a tube and go around on) was just outstanding. The palm trees, the rock waterfalls, the bridges, the views, the scenery. Just outstanding!
One more thing and the reason we picked TL over BB for our first trip: Shark Reef! There was no line even though the park was crowded (first day it wasn't raining at noon in nine days!). You step up and the CM gives you a vest that zips up. You get a mask and snorkel. You wash them in a shower and then sit down at the edge of the saltwater tank. If you already know what you're doing, just go right in. If not, you get expert instruction on snorkeling. I went twice and I was thrilled at the experience! It is really amazing to swim among the fish, rays, and sharks (it's okay, I researched it...even though you would swear that hammerhead shark should be tearing your arm off, there are nine species of hammerhead and the one in the tank has teeth only for eating shellfish, totally harmless to us humans.).

mm6mm6 - is there an additional charge for Shark Reef? One of my DD's said she would like to do that on our upcoming trip.

I have to agree with MM6MM6--shark reef is the reason I loved TL. There is no extra charge for it--they give you the vest and mask/snorkel, then you return them when you are done. If you like, you can keep going around and getting in line again. I ended up going about 8 times. The actual reef isn't all that long, less than 100 yards. I wanted to be sure I saw everything. This attraction would be good for your DD too--I saw kids about her age in line too. Be warned--the water in the reef is cold and it is salt water! Not bad, just a bit of a surprise the first time through.
To be fair, I haven't been to BB and am looking forward to the slides there on my next visit; but I can wholeheartedly recommend TL. The shark reef, waterslides, lazy river and wave pool made for a lot of variety for my day there.

I love Blizzard Beach, because it has so many great rides and the theming is wonderful.
Saying that if I had a child I would take them the TL, it is less congested and the wave pool is great. The theming is like you were on Gilligan's island.
