A friend of mine, whose husband is tried and true Repubican, wrote me.

She stated her husband has been disgusted with the Bush Presidency - he is a fiscal conservative and fails to see how we can get out of this mess without having many generations to come pay for our follies.

His idea was to sell off Hawaii to pay off alot of the national debt .

Although we had a good laugh over the statement we found ourselves intrigued with the idea. It was as difficult to figure out what state to sell as it was to figure out who to sell it too.

Anyone?

New York - so we would all be forced to move someplace nicer - and cheaper.. LOL

It would have to be a state that had little strategic importance, little or no natural resources but a place that a company/country/etc would be willing to pony up some big bucks for.

How about Rhode Island? Somebody could buy that & maybe turn it into another Monte Carlo.

I think Hawaii has too much of a geographical importance for the US' defense as well as the state's natural beauty and its tourist business.

agnes!

Would Rhode Island net us enough money though?

I would say Ca, It a huge state should be able to get a pretty penny per acre

I understand, but strategically speaking, you have opened up all the states it ajoins to attack.

And again, selling Disneyland ????I do not think so.

Probably not, we're in quite a bit of hock. Not to mention, location-wise it wouldn't be a good idea to sell. If a country has the RI seaports, they could easily cut off the northeast.

We could always sell off Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands (no offense to anyone - I am just being hypothetical based on the topic - not that I am endorsing selling off any thing or anyone)

I know, but if it were turned into a big casino...
maybe the US would retain ownership of the seaports?

agnes!

Nothing against the residents of these states, but maybe we could sell Minnesota and North Dakota to Canada?

oooh here's an idea, we could sell Nebraska or Iowa ( or some other land locked state.) Collect the money and then retake it militarily before the new owners fully moved in! Piece of cake!

these 2 make the most sense to me....or Wyoming or Montana. Not as many people to displace in those 2 states.

Those are always possible.

DC is essentially selling to the highest bidder anyway.......how about that?
