Which rides to avoid?

I have moderate motion sickness. I'm horrible on boats without Bonine, fine in cars in the front seat, fine on planes. I'm pretty certain on some things to avoid: Tea Cups, Mission Space, Star Tours. Motion simulators or anything that spins in small circles are bad for me. I can do most roller coasters, just don't care for them too much. I will do BTMRR, but not Space Mountain, RRR or EE. Splash Mountain is fine, I can do Dumbo, Carousel, etc. I have a hard time with 360, IMAX-type movies after a few minutes.

I say all this to ask more specifically about Soarin' and Test Track. The descriptions of these two really appeal to me, so I"m curious as to their tendency to cause motion sickness. They both sound great, and I'd love to try them, but I'm not planning on taking medication on our trip. Based on the above info, what do you think?

Thank you for any help!!!

If you have a hard time with 360 or IMAX movies, you might want to think about Soarin again...that's what the attraction is...a movie where you're soaring over the land.

Test Track is a lot of fun...when it's open...you should be ok with that one since it's basically a "car" ride with stops/starts/quick turns/bumps etc.

I have motion sickness too...Soarin' was okay for me...it's better than most imax experiences I have had. test track is no big deal, it will not usually cause motion sickness. ;) M:S is a definate avoid!! :wave2:

Thank you for the replies! How long is Soarin? I can stand IMAX movies for a little while, so if the ride is 5 minutes or so I'll probably give it a try.

Thanks!

You're welcome, sandym718! :thumbsup2 Umm...Soarin' isn't very long...probably around 5-7 minutes. At the most.
At least it's not as bad as hour long imax movies!

I don't get motion sickness but I am absolutely terrified of heights. I have ridden Soarin' four times and I have been okay with it.

When you enter the Soarin' theater, you will be shown to a numbered row (1-4). Depending on your row number, you will be seated either at the top of the theater or the bottom of the theater. Your row of seats will be raised and taken directly in front of a huge IMAX screen. Your seats move slightly throughout the film but it feels as if you are, truly, soaring over rivers, oceans, mountains, Disneyland, golf courses and lots of other scenes. I am okay while we are flying over the flat land or over the rivers and oceans but I am not okay when we reach the top of the mountains and you feel as if you are floating. During this time, I simply turn my head and wait for my kids to tell me we have reached to top. The film doesn't last very long so I am okay with it.

Regarding Test Track, I think you would be okay. You are in an open topped vehicle. You are taken through a test field. There are several sharp turns and quick stops. The outside portion is where you reach 65 mph but it's over with very quickly.

Hope this helps you out, Lisa

You may want to get some sea bands just in case. They're cloth wrist bands that work on accupressure. They have no medicine in them and can be used over and over and over. I used to work on a tiny cruise ship - and wore those things for 6 months straight. They help when I feel car sick too. If you decide to go on a ride that you're uncertain of, put the bands on. Even if they don't work, nothing is loss since they're not medicine.

I have motion sickness. I can't do any roller coasters, but I absolutely love Soarin! If you start to have a problem, you can look to the side to get your bearings. I always make sure that I don't sit on the first row. I've never tried test track, but maybe I will next time.
Kohlby - I've never heard of these sea bands. Can you tell me where I can get them?

For the sea bands, check places like CVS, Eckerd, even the pharmacy department at Wal-mart. Or, search for them on-line. It seems like the stores carry them sometimes and not other times so I ordered them on-line last time. I don't remember from where as it was a while ago. I just did a quick search and did find them at drugstore.com. sea bands

My husabnd nearly threw up on BodyWars. He can't even watch when I go on the Tea Cups with the kids. He loved Test Track and Soarin', no problem.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the help!! I think I'll be giving them both a shot!!

In regards to Soarin

2 Questions for those not liking the heights thing.
1) Can you tell how High you are?
2) Is the Front the Lowest height and can you decide to go and weight for the front?

Thanks!

1) Most people say that they don't realize how far off the ground they are. I don't like heights at all but had no problem with Soarin'.
2) The front row (Row 1) is the highest row. If you want to stay closer to the floor, ask for Row 3, it's the lowest to the ground. The other two rows will be above you.

Just a tip,
If you are going to do Both Test Track and Soarin, I might FASTPASS Soaring first thing, then go to Test Track, and come back to Soaring. Soarin, Test Track, and Mission Space has long lines. Works great 1st thing in the morning.

If you were going to do Mission: Space and Test Track, I'd fastpass test Track, go to Mission Space, and then hit Test Track. (also don't eat much of a breakfast before Mission Space, I ate a dounut and was fine)

Soarin is probably going to be the longest line, followed by Test Track, Then Mission: Space due to the deaths on it. (only a couple, so ride it anyways)

Skip Mission:Space (both orange and green). I got nautious on the less intense. Skip Body Wars (if it's open), Star Tours, Tea Cups, Astro Orbiter, Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur. I hate to say it, but you should skip Everest if you get motion sickness.

No offense, but you might as not go if you going to skip all the good rides...(well teacups, is pretty lame), but Star wars was great too. Mission: space - Stay focused....
Not sure how anyone could get sick on the wimp version....

Again no offense. I'm the biggest wimp of all and had no problem on Mission Space FULL VERSION.

Well, there's LOTS of rides and attractions to see!! Plus, we're primarily going for our kids - our enjoyment is secondary.

And I don't think having motion sickness makes anyone a wimp! (But I am one - I don't care for the big roller coasters anyways!)

Sorry - I'm a wimp too on the big coasters....

I took my 9 year old daughter on Mission: Space and she made be ride it twice with her. It's not as bad as you think.

Also all the warnings at "Dinosaur" make it seem like a intense ride too, but it wasn't that bad either...

To kohlby - Thanks so much. I will look for the sea bands. I tried Dramamine one year, and it made me feel awful.
