Which rides eat glasses?

We're going in a few days. I wear glasses and can't see well enough to enjoy the ride without them, so on which rides will I need to take them off? We went a few years ago and I rode Splash Mt and Big Thunder Mountain without taking them off.

Thanks!

Invest in one of those eyeglass straps. When my DH wants to take a break from his contacts he takes his glasses and put the strap on and his glasses don't move at all. :)

I have worn my glasses on everything.. including tower of terrot and rockin roller coaster

DH wears his glasses on all rides (including the big roller coasters at Islands of Adventure and Busch Gardens) and hasn't lost them yet. He's lost his hat a couple of times, but never his glasses.

My only problem was Space Mountain. They started sliding down my nose and I couldn't move my hands to push them back. All through the ride I was lifting my head and squirming trying to get them down, terrified that they would fall into the black abyss
At the first oppurtunity I bought a sports glass strap and the problem was solved

I wear my sunglasses all the time, like everyone said, invest in a strap, and if you have some old glasses you don't care about as much, wear those one. In the military, we call them "BCG's"

I do all the major rides and have not had a problem with my glasses, although I probably should not have said that, we leave in 8 days, now I better go buy a strap for them.

We've been many times and been on almost all of the rides including all the thrill rides and I have never had a problem. I have prescription lenses not sun glasses so maybe they fit a bit better. The only problem I could see having is on Kali River Rapids if you are right under a waterfall. But since I always have my head bent it wasn't a problem.

It seems like you are better off if you are wearing your glasses. DH wore his glasses on ToT and Rockin Roller Coaster without any kind of strap last year and had no problems. Back in the 80's my Dad lost his on SM when he took them off and put them in his pocket and I've heard lots of stories where people lose sunglasses out of pockets on rides. I agree with earlier posters, get a sports band for them and have fun!

Been wearing glasses for 40 years, and the only time at WDW that I felt like there might be a problem is on Rock'n Roller Coaster because you go upside down. I used my hand to push the nose bridge tight to my face. I hated to take a chance they might fly off. Other than that, no problems, even on TOT with the drops.

The only ride where I have ever removed my glasses in any of the parks at WDW is Splash Mountain. As we climb the hill leading to the big drop, I always slip my glasses off and put them in a front pocket in my shorts. (No way would I ever put them in a shirt pocket!)

The reason I remove them is not because I'm afraid they will fly off, but rather because the first time I rode Space Mountain I left them on, had trouble seeing after the mist covered the lenses, and found it difficult to get my handkerchief out of my back pocket to clean them off while riding in that log.

So now I take them off during the ride, and put them right back on AFTER the drop, so I can see clearly during the remainer of the voyage.

Works for me.

Enjoy.

4 of us in our family wear glasses. Before we leave for our trip I make sure that all the frames are tighten and no one experiences any slippage. Then we wear them on all the rides. My daughter needs glasses all the time and she even swims in them so she doesn't get disoriented. Now if someone could invent glasses that could be worn anywhere and everywhere I would definitely get some!

I have worn glasses all my life, sometimes they are a bit loose. The only rides I will take them off for are ones that go upside down, so that would be RnR at WDW. The only time I have actually dropped them is at 6 Flags Over TX, Mr. FREEZE, dropped them getting off ride while I was holding them in my hand, due to disorientation/not being able to see.

Never THOUGHT of a sports strap, LOL, now I will have to get one. I have a huge fear of breaking them since I can't see a thing without them.

What has been the experiences on EE?

I purchased a strap for them today so hopefully I can keep a hold of them and enjoy the ride!!

My DF had no problems, including on EE. He did buy a sports strap but didn't use it all the time.

As other posters have said, as long as your glasses sit tight you will be fine - on the upside down rides, the G-forces hold them to your head anyway :rotfl:

On a side note, my dad lost a lens on Dr Doom's Fearfall at IOA because he took them off and hooked them over the top of his shirt - as it blasted off they flew up and he caught them but one of the lenses was never seen again. My brother kept his on properly and had no problems at all!

My DH actually lost his sunglasses on Carousel of Progress. :rotfl2: :lmao:
Not quite sure how it happened. One minute they were on top of his head, and when we got off they were gone. Go figure!

Oh my, I remember the BCG's! My brother (soon to be temporarily sent to S.C. by the military) just had to get some. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
:rotfl2: Those are the ones you almost hope WILL get lost, lol.

I have croakies for my sunglasses and have never lost them on any rides.

My dad did manage to lose his on ToT... but then again he took them off his head and put them in an open pocket. I wouldn't advise doing that! :)

Watch out for those rides you would not expect to "eat glasses" - like Small World for example. Had a very expensive pair of sunglasses which I pushed up to sit atop my head for better viewing. I leaned over the side of the boat ever so slightly to peek into the water - and - they were gone. :sad2:
You would think after that I would have learned my lesson - right? Nope - did the same thing on Pirates several years later. :confused3 I often how many other pair of glasses are down there keeping mine company... and what other types of things they recover when they clean out the canals.
