Going to Universal in less than 2 weeks....it will be our first time there with our 6 yr. old DD and 10 yr. old DS. I'm confused about which rides are too scary for them at Universal (we aren't doing IOA). Also, they really want to see the Nick Studios but I told them we don't have time to try to get tickets to Slime Time Live. Are the Nick Studios interesting? Thanks for info about the rides.

It depends what they're afraid of. If they're afraid of hungry sharks, then Jaws is a no-go. BTTF also has a hungry T-Rex, which can scare some. T2 has soe scary looking robots and gunshots.

Slimetime live is not filming right now, but they have a Nick Game Lab show that is a blast. I'm sure they will like it.

I have two daredevils that love most all rides, but the show they feared most at Universal was Earthquake. It terrifed both of them. For this reason, I didn't take them on Twister. I think it had something to do with real life situations. They did fine on Jaws and Terminator, because you can tell those things are fake. They do rollercoasters and Spiderman, but the real life things were very scary for them.

Every child is different, you just have to figure out what works for your kids.

You really won't know unless you give the rides/shows a try. What scares one child is funny to another. My 4yo is fine with the "real action" things, whether it be rides or attractions, but gets scared in the 3D theater shows. Last year he was terrified of the dinosaur in Back to the Future and I didn't bring him when I went with him to Universal last month, but will next month when I bring my whole family. Last year he was scared on Spiderman (thought he was really falling), but thought it was funny last month. I will bring him back to Shrek, which he's ok with, and he will probably like it this time. Geez, last year he cried on Jimmy Neutron because he thought he was really underwater and he loved it last month.

I would think that your 10yo will be fine, unless he doesn't want to do upside down roller coasters. My 10yo doesn't do the big coasters, but does everything else, and likes Dr Doom. My older kids (13 and 16) do everything, and the 4yo does everything that he is tall enough for.

T&B

I think we've done everything except Twister - which my sister said wasn't worth the 10 minute wait. Here's the rundown:

My 4 yo loves it all except she doesn't like getting wet on the water rides. Oh yeah, she also doesn't like the parts in Jaws and Earthquake when the fire makes it very hot. She's quite tall and can do everything my 6 yo can. She has no fear of anything scary. Her 4yo cousing prefers Barney.

My 6 yo son and 9 yo nephew are afraid of Spiderman.

My 10 yo is afraid of ET (she also refuses to watch the movie). But she loves everything else - especially the Hulk and Dueling Dragons.

Like other posters have said - each child is different.

One thing that might help if your children don't like the 3D effects on the attractions, is to have them remove their glasses. My son and nephew still don't like Spiderman that way, but it may help other kids.

Everyone's All Around Favorite: Men in Black
4 YO Favorite: Cat in the Hat
6 YO Favorite: Flying Unicorn
10 YO Favorite: Incredible Hulk & Dueling Dragons

I would think that an average 10 year old could do all the Universal attractions.

I would avoid these with an average 6 year old:

Twister (even my 10 year old is somewhat scared of this)
Earthquake
Back to the Future

I would think a 6 year old could do Jaws if you explain in advance about FAKE shark, and that there will be a wall of fire but it will go away before you pass through it.

I would also think a 6 year old could do MIB if you explain that it is a fun shoot em up game where you get to shoot fake aliens.

Hi,

I would say they can do everything. My 4 year old loved everything except twister.............. he was really scared in there, but it is VERY loud, and windy, and where we were standing we got WET........... so he didn't care for it at all.............. but I think your kids will do fine............. I'd say try all the rides...... and if they don't like one, skip it the rest of the trip.

Have fun.............

My DD is 8 and the only thing that truly freaked her out was Twister. We live in an area that gets tornado warnings all the time and I think it was too close to home.

She has done most everything else without a problem. Each kid is different.

I have an 10 yo daughter and an 8 yo son.
10 yo and 8yo were not keen on anything that was fake but could actually happen. My son wouldn't go near earthquake or twister and my daughter didnot like Earthquake. they were both okay with Jaws - though both not keen on the fire.
They both enjoyed MIB and Spiderman (when it worked). They were okay with T2. My 8 yo did not like the dinosaur just before the drop at Jurassic River Adventure (so he wouldn't go on again) - my daughter was okaywith the dinosaur but didn't like the drop at the end! They loved Cat in the Hat and onefish two fish. Both did not like BTTF as it threw them around too much. Both liked ET (though my son was a little scared of the dark). both won't do Hulk or Doom or Dueling Dragons. Both enjoyed Bilge-rat Barges and got soaked, but did not want to do Ripsaw Falls. My son had to leave Poseidon's fury through fire exit as he found it too scary but my daughter was okay with it and they enjoyed all the other rides and attractions that I haven't mentioned - but these are the ones that spring to mind.
