Hi. Never been to Disney before. Which restaurants offer buffets that are not Character meals? Are all the buffets on the DDP? How many TS credits per buffet meal? Do they allow children on DDP to eat from the buffets? If so, do they limit their choices? Do I have to make a reservation 180 days out? Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Most buffets are on DDP and are usually 1 credit- can't think of any that aren't. Children can eat whatever they want from the buffet, even though that have kid friendly choices for picky eaters. Reservations are highly recommended as soon as possible. ADRs (ressies) are harder to get at busier times of year. For a list of restaurants that are buffets go to allears.net. They even have the menus for each restaurant.
Some buffets I can think of:
Boma
Trails End
Cape May (dinner)

Good luck!

Buffets without characters:

The Wave (breakfast)
Biergarten
Boma
Trail's End
Captain's Galley (breakfast)
Cape May (dinner)

All I can think of.

I would add Tusker house for lunch and dinner. Only breakfast has characters.

Tusker House is adding characters for lunch beginning early in December. I thought the 4th, but someone with an earlier date in Dec said their reservation already said characters. I don't know about dinner.

Tusker House will be Character meals for both Breakfast and Lunch (beginning December 4th, which is why we cancelled our reservation for lunch). Dinner is still safe from Characters.

I personally would recommend Cape May or Trails End. We like the options they give at both places. Cape May is seafood. Trails End is more homestyle/country type food.

Yes, children (ages 3-9) on the DDP can eat at buffets and pay the child's price. There are always some typical child foods on the buffet (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, etc) but anyone can eat them, and children can eat anything on the buffet, they are not limited.

Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of our favorites- my DS says they have the best mac & cheese he's ever eaten. There was plenty of food our children enjoyed (and DD was brave and sampled some things she would usually never eat) and all of the adults in our party loved it.

We also enjoyed the Biergarten at Epcot. German buffet with some American food thrown in as well. No characters, but there's a little "show" with music that the kids can participate in if they want to (no pressure).

No, you don't necessarily need to make a reservation 180 days out, unless you are going at a peak time. It's a good idea to make it ahead of time, though, especially if you want to dine during "normal" hours.

All the buffets I can think of are 1 credit, characters or not.

I can't believe no one has mention Ohana for dinner! It's not a buffet where you go get your food, but family style where they serve it to you, but you still get to eat all you want of what they serve. Liberty Tree Tavern in MK is the same way for dinner and no characters.

Hollywood and Vine at HS is a buffet and does not have characters at dinner.

Also Whispering canyon Cafe at WL has an all you can eat skillet for breakfast, lunch and dinner which is like a buffet.
