Hi, we will be in WDW in May and we can't wait. :cool1: It will be me, DH, and our 2 boys ages 13 and 11. They are both fans of Disney and especially Mickey. My 13 year old (believe it or not) is more excited about the trip and the characters than the 11 year old. The 11 year old is more laid back and is fine with basically anything. The 13 year old still sleeps with a stuffed Mickey that he has had since he was a baby. LOL.

The last time we were there the kids were 9 and 7 years old. Now that they are older, I was wondering what meals will be better for them. We are going to do Chef Mickeys for dinner on our arrival day. We are not doing a park that day and I thought it would be a good way to start off the vacation. We are staying at the GF (thanks to the buy 4 get 3 deal) and we will be on the basic DDP. I was thinking of also doing WWC for one of the meals and maybe trying to get Crystal Palace for breakfast to get into MK early before the park opens. Since we will be in the GF I was thinking of doing 1900 Park Fare for dinner because it will be convenient and I heard the food was good. I am not too sure of the characters for 1900 because I think it is more for girls. What do you think? Any other ideas?

TIA,

Loralie

My DS13 and DS11 recommend the following:

Biergarten at Epcot
Sci-Fi at Studios
Ohana at Poly

Haven't tried it since it opened but the new T-Rex place in DD might be neat. :)

Hi, my 13 yo DS loves Cape May clambake & any restaurant that has steak or burgers ie Pecos Bills, Coral Reef, Sci Fi. We went to 1900 2 yrs ago & he wasn't too happy - didn't want to go back. He was a good sport there but felt it was geared more toward the girls. He also enjoys the Plaza & Rose & Crown or Harry Ramsden's. The breakfast at Crystal Palace is still popular with him - esp the made to order pancakes. Typical teenage boy, he likes the breakfast buffet because he can pick & choose his food. He doesn't mind the characters there - hopefully he'll still feel that way in April.:rolleyes1

At that age, my guys liked Whispering Canyon and O'Hana quite a bit. :)

I just asked my 10 year old [girl] and my 13 year old [boy] and they said:

Sci Fi
Prime Time Cafe
The new Dino restaurant
Tusker House for character breakfast [Donald's]
Rainforest Cafe
Earl of Sandwich
Boma

I hope this helps.

Because you're on the dining plan, you should know that T-Rex is not an option for the dining plan. You can go there if you are OK with paying OOP for a meal. (This is also the case with Rainforest Cafe)

My DD14 loves WCC, as we all do. Food wise her favorite was LeCellier and she is dying to go to TeppanEdo (Spelling???)

My kids (6, 14, and 15) love Chef Mickey's, 'Ohana, Sci-Fi and Crystal Palace best. :goodvibes

Try Coral Reef at Epcot. Nice variety on the menu, cool aquarium and you get served (you are eyeing a lot of buffets). We did CR for lunch it was a great break from the heat and hustle, but they also serve dinner there.

Boma is good for great food and atmosphere without the characters. Your kids might find the AKL "cool" to visit too.

Especially since you are staying GF consider 1900 Park Fare for breakfast, better non princess characters: Mad Hatter, et al.

Teppon Edo in Epcot might also be a fun show for a meal.

Hoop Dee Doo Review it is 2TS option, but I hear lots of fun, easy menu and Mom and Dad get wine or beer included with the meal! ;)

Hi! We went last year with two boys who were 8 and 12 at the time. My 12 was considered an adult on the dining plan which he loved. His absolute favorite meal was at Jiko where he ordered the filet mignon with macaroni and cheese and creme brulee for dessert. I would never have let him order that if we werent on the dining plan because it is sooo expensive but he inhaled it! We also ate at the Italian restaurant in Epcot and really liked that too.

Whispering Canyon---loud, but a ton of fun....make sure to ask for ketchup.
Ohana---awesome food....ask for a table in the grill room.
SciFi---boys will love it
50s Prime Time---kids will love seeing mom and dad get in trouble
Boma---if you like unique food

1900 PF has Alice in Wonderland at breakfast and Cinderella & friends for dinner.

What about going to one of the 2TS show like the Luau or the Hoop Dee Do.....

It is so subjective to your kid's taste! My boys will also be 11 & 13 & this will be their fourth time to Disney in four years. Their favourite meals were Liberty Tree Tavern (but not now since the characters are no longer there!); Le Cellier (LOVE this place...#1 every year!); they enjoyed Teppan Edo last year & interacting with the chef & they enjoyed watching the fish at Coral Reef (& the food too!). I think though at this age, one of their new favourites has been Raglan Road as they really enjoy the live band.

Have fun!!

My ds is 12 and he hasn't met a WDW restaurant that he didn't like! :lmao:

Anything AYCE makes him happy. That would cover all character meals and buffets. Favorite buffets would be Tusker House, Boma, Biergarten, and Crystal Palace. It's been a while since we did Chef Mickey's, but I'm sure he'd still enjoy it.

As for table service meals, he loves Chefs de France, Le Cellier, and Coral Reef in Epcot. Sci-Fi, 50's PT and Mama Melrose's are a hit at Studios. At the MK, he likes Tony's. He likes WCC and Kona, too.

One of his favorite WDW dining experiences is Hoop Dee Doo. It's AYCE plus he LOVES the corny jokes!

ETA: One place we haven't been to yet that I think ds would enjoy is Beaches and Cream.
