Which resorts can you still buy points at?

We would like to buy an additional 50pts at another resort. Can you tell me which ones still have space left and does your use year start at the same time as the points that you already have? We have 250 pts at BWV, if we bought 50pts at OKW could we then book that 11 months in advance and 'borrow' points from BWV?

Currently VB, HH & VWL are the only resorts that have points for sale through Disney. BWV & OKW are sold out but are available through resale brokers but small add-on packages are hard to come by. BCV should go on sale sometime next year depending on when VWL sells out which is rumored to be later this year.

If you had 50 points at OKW you can only reserve 11 months out with those 50 points. You can then use your BWV points to stay at OKW at the 7 month window. You could however bank those 50 points 1 year, then borrow from the next and have 150 points for an 11 month window. You could only do this every 3 years.

Actually, some people have reported being able to buy small add-ons for BWV and OKW thru Disney recently; I think they might be buying up some of the resales themselves using their right of first refusal to have th points available. Of course, if you buy thru Disney you'll be paying the going rate, but if you buy resale you might have to pay closing costs, so I'd check both ways.

I was under the impression that they had been getting lax and not buying back many resales. This is good to know for all you trying to buy resales. Mabye we can do an add on at the BWV through Disney directly. Take care, Tammy

DVC did have waiting lists for those wanting add ons such as your self but have apparently cut off the lists. All of the people that posted getting in lately were on a waiting list and all had been on for a few months. I think March or ealy April was the last post along this line that I saw. If you're set on BW or OKW, start looking resale AND call your guide. Otherwise it depends on where you want to own. Remember that closing costs and misc. extra expenses usually add up to around $9-10 pp on resales. This and the fact that the minimum commisions charged by brokers eats up almost half the value is the main reason they are hard to come by, not that they are THAT popular. If one of the current resorts fits your needs, you may be better off buying directly from DVC anyway. If you want on Property, WLV is a good options. Less fees than HH and BW though more than OKW.

As for the ROFR, DVC will continue to ensure a basement for resales as long as they are in an active selling mode. Right now the supply vs demand is at an unreasonable level and I doubt that DVC is buying many points because the resale costs are so high. Remember though that they held OKW points previously for a number of years before reselling any of them. I would expect they'll just keep them and build up their margin a little. If they get too many, they can always let them go to current members that want them. Long term resales prices have many variables but overall if DVC eventually quits selling, prices will drop somewhat and likely become far more variable.
