WHich resorts are dog friendly? Boarding?

I have read that Portofino accepts dogs, but is it the only one? Also is there any size limit? I have a Golden Retriever. Any experience with boarding a dog while in the parks? WHere is the kennel and approx how much $$ per day?

All 3 Loew's hotels will take dogs. The kennel is in the corner of the parking garage and is about $10?

At the HRH we ended up on the 5th floor at the very end of a hallway. Took a while to walk to the elevator, take it downstairs, then go outside. But, if you stay at the HRH or PBH, you can walk from the hotel to the kennel. If you stay at the RPR, it's a much farther walk. In our case, we drove over each time.

For the RPR, pets stay on the first or 2nd floor of tower 2. You won't have a view of the park, but that really doesn't matter. The walk to the dog park at the RPR is much shorter. In our case, we were on floor 1, between the elevator and an exit door that led right to the dog park. There is a one time $25 pet cleanup fee.

Bringing a big dog is no problem. You'll have fun doing it. To reach the Kennel, you pay the parking fee, then head to the left following a red line. It's in the far corner of the parking garage. You drop off your dog in the morning, then come back in the afternoon to walk them. In our case, we went back to the hotel room, then brought her back at night so we could see the fireworks show. They bark like crazy, and you'll feel guilty about leaving them in there. On the 2nd day, the wife didn't really care about going to the park, and wanted to hang out with the dog in the room. In my case, the wife and kid would run off and do something while I stayed in the room, then I'd go and the wife would stay. So we kinda took turns, but it all works out.
We've checked other hotels in the area, and the onsite hotels are the only ones that accept larger dogs. Most hotels have a 40lb limit. So stay onsite, and enjoy the visit.

Thank you for the info. I am thinking of taking Sherman(golden) on Spring Break next March. We loved US and we would like to try IOA. My kids are 8 and 5 so we can't ride a lot of the rides. Which hotel is the closest to the kennel? We have a long drive..from Ohio...so not totally convinced to take him yet. He travels fine in the SUV.

The HRH is closest to the kennel, and the park. It's kinda between both of them. That would be your best bet if you can get a good deal on the room. The thing is, rates at the HRH have been going up. If you can't get a good rate, then the RPR will be fine, you'll just have to drive over to the kennel each morning, then drive back to your hotel in the afternoon.

The 8 year old would probably make the height requirement for the big kid rides, but not the 5 year old. So splitting up would be an idea. If you stay at the HRH, this is easy, because the wife and 5 year old can stay in the room with the dog, while you take the 8 year old to the parks and do the big kid stuff. Then you come back, and they go do the little kid stuff for a couple hours.

Our dog traveled well too. She would sleep in the back seat, or lay down on the center divider and put her face in the air vents. But we only had to drive 215 miles. If you put your dog in the kennel at home, things will work out fine, but you'll feel bad the dog is sitting in a cage doing nothing all day. It's really a guilt trip thing. But on the other hand, the Loews hotels are the best at accepting dogs, they're really friendly about it, so if there is a vacation you want to take the dog, this is it.

If you do decide to do it, you need vet papers within 10 days before your trip showing the dog is in good condition and all shots are up to date.

Haven't been to the Disney with Destiny. Only the Universal resorts.
The kennel is great. They have huge cages with water bowls. The cages are fenced in, go up about 10 feet, and you can walk around in them.

We always take our American Eskimo - Dante with us when we stay at the Hard Rock or at the Portofino twice a year - we walkl him in the morning at at night but he is paper trained and doesn't bark much se he stays in the room watching t.v. and sleeping while we hit the parks

The $25 fee is a one time charge.
You can leave your dog in the room while you go to the parks. We didn't do this, we used the kennel, which is free if you have a preferred AP.

We would probably use the kennel during the day, too. Even though our dog never barks at home, on trips with her I am always nervous that for some reason she would start barking in the room and get us in trouble! Or, that someone would open the hotel door and she would get out.

Upon checking in the hotel gives you - a do not disturb sign that says that you have a dog in the room and to not open the door.
