I am still leaning toward WL BUT I was wondering which would you pick for a 1st trip to WDW and why?

I have stayed at the GF, POFQ, and the Poly. The WL is one I would like to try also, but having a family of 5 makes it harder. We like the Poly the best. It is on the monorail, and within walking distance to the TTC(pick up Monorail for Epcot) They have a Volcano pool with slide which my kids( ages 7,6,4) really liked.
There is also boat service to mk. and you can view fw from the beach. The restaurants were good too. the landscaping is really lush and has a very relaxing atmosphere.

The Wl also has nice restaurants and has boat service to mk. The other parks are access. with bus service. From what I hear the pool and slide are also nice.
I hope that helps. You really cant go wrong with your choice of on property resorts. They all have something nice to offer:)

was May of 2003 w/ our then almost 3 year old and 5 year old. We stayed at the WL and fell in love with it. Pictures do no capture the awsome beauty of this place. I was overwhelmed when we first walked into the massive lobby.

Now we've only been to POFQ (11 years ago w/o kids). So we really don't have anything to compare it to. I've seen reports that the rooms at the WL are on the small side for a deluxe but this really did not affect us. We also had a bunk bed room and our kids insist when we return, we go to the place w/ bunk beds!!

We also felt it was very convenient to the MK and it was great to take the ferry there. After that trip, we swore we'd never go to another Disney property and the WL would be "our" place. So when we go in Oct., we're staying at the WL!!

Like someone else posted, you really can't go wrong w/ a Disney property.

Good luck!!! ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

Consider, if able, to stay on the monorail loop--poly, cr or gf. The ease to reach MK is wonderful and with 2 small kids--worth it. Good luck in your planning.

You're going to get many different opinions on this. Here are mine, for what they're worth.

We have two kids, about the same ages as yours 7 and 10. For our family, the most important things to us are a good night's sleep, quick transportation to the parks and a pool slide. We have stayed at many resorts - GF, WL, AKL, CR, CSP, PO, FW cabin,OKW, BWV, Swan and Dolphin, ASM and ***. Here are our favorites based on those three things.

We really like the AKL because the kids enjoy the animals, the busses are not shared, the pool has a slide, and they have bunk beds! Bunks allow everyone to get a better night's sleep, including mom. (I don't have to get up and move someone's feet out of the other's back).

We liked the CR, too, because you can walk to MK (which is where we spend most of our time) and it was a daybed (really sleeps 5). This resort isn't as "themed" as the others but it has a great arcade the kids loved. (Nice break from the parks). It has a pool slide, too. You also have access to water sports here, good shopping, a great fireworks view of MK and character meals.

WL also has bunks but I did not like the bus service. If I remember correctly, we shared with GF and Poly and WL was the last stop. This meant standing during crowded hours. I also thought it was noisy. (The kids were really small - napping age- and the boats were really loud. I could also hear my neighbor using the bathroom. Yuck.). It is one of the most beautiful resorts and many people really love it. We enjoyed the resteraunts. I would stay here again and give it another try if the price was right.

We like the locations of BWV, Swan and Dolphin. You can walk to MGM and EPCOT. BW has a neat clown slide the kids really enjoy. There are no bunks.

Our favorite moderate is CSR because it has direct bus service and a fun, fast slide.

Good luck making a decision. There are lots of good choices!

I took my 6 yo niece and 8 yo nephew last year and stayed at WL Villas. It was their first Disney trip and they loved it! (I did too.) I'd highly recommend the villas; I rented points from a DVC member and it was fantastic. We loved having breakfast & snacks available in the room. The kids thought the patio area was great too - I let them go out there and I could still watch them as I finished getting ready or just enjoyed a tiny moment of quiet! The Cub's Den was terrific; I had to pry them out of there. For kids that age I liked the pool, since the entrance and exit for the slide are sort of parallel, so it's easy to keep an eye on them. (I took my 10 yo niece to POR - also great- but I was a bit nervous about the fact that the slide entrance is all the way around the other side and through the bushes. At her age she was fine, but the younger kids I'm not sure I'd let go all alone.) We loved the boat, and because of their ages we spent most of our time at MK. We only had bus trouble one day, waiting for an MGM bus for about 1/2 hour. But I didn't really think the buses overall were any problem. I think the WL theming is great too; the kids love the totem poles, the cowbells you can ring outside the arcade, the fireplace rockers, and the geyser. I went back in March by myself and stayed in the Lodge; I really love it there.

It depends on what your budget is, I would recommend BC/YC Stormalong Bay Pool is great. We stayed @ BCV last year on rented points from a DVC member (6 nights Sep28-Oct4 $830). Our DS6 loved, loved loved the pool & slide. The pool is sand bottom in parts & after a long day at the parks, it felt really great on our feet. If your kids like animals, we have also stayed @ AKL & liked that too. We've never stayed @ WL, but had it booked & then changed to the Poly since we're going for our 10th anniv. Good luck, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any choice - You're @ WDW!!!

Oh, WL is a great choice! We loved our stay last Sept!

Your kids will enjoy the bunk beds. The resort is small enought for everything to be only a few minutes walk. The pool areas are great. The beach is so pretty. The water mice are fun to zip around in. You can rent bikes.

The location is wonderful. To get to CR or FW just take the little boat (runs 7am - 10pm, goes WL/CR/FW, and order). We ate a Concourse Steakhouse a couple of times and Trails End.

The large boat to MK is fun. Our dd really enjoyed it. It's a very refreshing ride on a hot day. The buses everywhere else were great. WL was always the 1st stop. We stopped at GF in the am and FW in the pm. We never had a wait longer that 5-10 minutes.

I have pictures below if you'd like to look.
