Which resort is best for sleep around points?

I've been thinking about it a lot in regards to how many points I really need if I already have a fixed week in December and just need a couple of weekend stays here and there throughout the year.
Probably for that, under 100 might be plenty, but you might find that it's not that much more to buy a bit more, as smaller contracts can go for 25%+ more.

from 2008 (lol-same debate now)-where to buy AKV vs. SSR:

AKV Considerations
Concierge Rooms (the only DVC with them) and point-saving Value accommodations will go quick. These rooms will go quick and probably necessitate booking at 11 months.
The 1 BR can sleep 5 versus 4 at SSR (remodel SSR give small extra bed). Kidani has an extra bathroom.
Great exotic theme (African game reserve) with unique decor
The Savannahs with the views of the animals (20+ species)
Samawati Springs Pool - 4,700-sq-ft with slide and 2 whirlpool spas (Kidani), plus themed Uzima pool at AKL
Excellent onsite restaurants: Jiko and Boma, plus new Sanaa TS
Lease is 3 years more than SSR (2057 vs. 2054)
Attached to a deluxe resort hotel (AKL) – room service & valet parking
Some GV have pool tables!

SSR Considerations
Lower maintenance fees
Direct access to DTD (for restaurants and nightlife)
Onsite Spa (I think AKV has some Spa offerings now)
Apartment-style setup; standalone, not attached to any hotel
Elegant and sophisticated décor (understated, subdued theme)
Golf course on property
Large, very spread out resort (the largest DVC resort)
Long distance from some rooms to dining and services
Themed pool - rock formations/springs/water slide
Limited onsite dining (Artists Palette and The Turf Club)
Has convenient self parking
No room service or valet parking; Outdoor hallways.

Just to point out though - that debate at the time was really selecting between the two vs selecting for sleep around points. They were both in active direct sales at the time.

Sleep around = SSR. :)

If deciding AKV/SSR/BLT etc then it's about the things listed above at each resort.

Agreed, from all these answers I surmise that SSR wins purely for SAP. The others are only for whatever else goes into consideration. Thanks!

I was thinking maybe 150 to get larger rooms sometimes and entice family to visit (they all live in South FL).

re. SSR for sleep around: as more points come online, I'd rather pay a bit more and have a place that I'm happy staying at and not rely totally on swapping out at 7 months, as I just see a lot of people posting about waitlists, cannot get rooms they want, etc.
So, for me, the attributes of the resort matter. For others who are very comfortable relying on the 7 month swap, maybe not as much. I've swapped many times but also been "stuck" with AKV, which was fine with us and sometimes our preference.

It's really tough between SSR and AKV. If I could get AKV for only around $10 pp more than SSR, I might go that way partly because I love the resort and the purchase would just make me happier. But from what others suggest, it's not difficult to book there at 7 months. Is it difficult for a xmas-time trip?

The thing about the posted complaints is that invariably when I ask they are wanting very small inventory room types that "they always were able to get in the past". If one is flexible on the times to go and especially if it's not Oct-Dec then it's possible. And if one wants larger villas it's definitely possible - again, with flexibility. It is good to be ok with staying where you own just in case but it's still far from impossible to stay at places other than your home resort.

Aulani subsidized dues wins over SSR for lowest MF in DVC. $6.26 this year. But no option in WDW if you plan earlier than 7 mo obviously.
I keep looking for that elusive subsidized Sep UY Aulani contract. ;-)

I did poly for sleep around points. We wouldn’t be happy staying at Ssr if we couldn’t switch. Poly we would be okay with. That said I’ve used our blt to try out every wdw DVC property except riv as it wasn’t open our last trip. For the price the poly was close to Ssr price of 85 pp

Wow, if Poly was 80s or 90s pp I would buy there. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, I only see it in the $140s and up

PVB has never been in the 80's or 90's. I believe that was the posters calculated value probably for years remaining and points included.

Best deal for SAP by far is Aulani subsidized dues contract. But this knocks you out from a 11 month booking advantage at WDW. Which is needed during certain times of the year, fall festival etc.. It has the cheapest dues and costs about $95-100 pp and has a longer expiration date than SSR.

For festivals I can stay at Riviera... so this sounds amazing, but also pretty hard to find I assume

Well...if all the 2042 resorts are in the same boat it may make that back end easier in some way. If they can come up with a creative solution to small % of folks extended. Anyone know what % of OKW is?
~25% is extended. It would be easy to offer extensions that were not as poorly done as OKWs. But as someone said above they’d probably rather wait and sell at least BCV, BRV and BWV as “new” resorts with more aggressive point charts in 2040ish. OKW’s super friendly point chart will outlast them all!
But we are flexible with when we travel and would be happy in several resorts (hence my search for SAP)
Then the rest of this conversation is academic. You should buy SSR. Maybe you’ll like it and maybe you won’t but if you are flexible and would be happy in several resorts then buying at any other resort is a waste of money.

SSR has addressed the restaurants by expanding Paddock Grille’s offerings into a true QS and the same with Chip & Dale.

I think of AKV as just as spread out as SSR because to get to quick service food from my room last fall I had a 7 minute walk to the Kidani lobby followed by a 5 minute wait for a bus followed by a 5 minute bus ride to Jambo followed by a 4 minute walk to Mara. Other than the treehouses there’s no rooms at SSR that are more than 10 minute walk from Artists Pallette.
