There are 6 of us planning a trip to Disneyworld (3 adults, 3 teenagers).

Is it cheaper to get a suite or 2 rooms? We're thinking along the lines of either a Moderate Resort, Wilderness Lodge or Dolphin.

I do'nt know anything about the Dolphin but the moderates will only hold a maximum of 5. I believe Wilderness Lodge is the same, 5 max per room.

Usually suites on property are hugely expensive. You can try a Fort Wilderness Cabin, which does sleep 6.

You can also try getting a 2 bedroom villa at one of the DVC resorts, which sleep 8 and have a full kitchen and jacuzzi tub. These are also more expensive, but can be reasonable if you rent points from a DVC member, depending on the time of year you are travelling.

Hi!

We have 6 in our family too. It seems from the research I've done that it is almost always less expensive to get 2 rooms than a suite. Wilderness Lodge I believe has a suite..a junior suite I think...that holds 6 but it is more expensive than 2 rooms. We always book 2 rooms at a moderate. (Coronado Springs also has a suite for 6 people but agian it's more than 2 rooms). All Stars would be a little less...Fort Wilderness cabins are also an option if you like a camp atmosphere. It looks really fun. If you can catch the travel channel special on Great Hotels they run one on Wilderness Lodge. It also gives you a peak at Ft. Wilderness and activities they offer. Also, renting DVC points as the previous poster suggested is an option. I've never researched it but it has been suggested a lot by folks requesting room for more people. Good luck! Let us know what you choose:D

If you want to squeeze all six of you into one room/suite and not spend a fortune, consider the Doubletree Guest Suites near Downtown Disney.

We've got six in our family too. I can tell you about the AS and FW.

We stayed at all the AS with connecting rooms. The best part of doing this is having 2 bathrooms. The rooms were small and the last time we were there (ASMo) the rooms were showing some wear. However, the atmosphere is very Disney. We stayed in the Woody building and it was a relatively short walk from the bus stop to our room.

During our last stay we stayed at FW in a cabin. I loved it. We had only 1 bathroom but it never was a problem. The youngest 2 slept on a bunk bed and the older two shared a double bed. These are both located in a bedroom towards the back of the cabin. My Dh and I slept on a very comfortable murphy bed in the living room. The area is very quiet at night which helped everyone get a good night's sleep. Each cabin has a deck with a picnic table and grill. The rooms were very clean and well kept. Housekeeping visits your room daily. There is also a well-equipted kitchen. We didn't use this much but it was a nice convenience. The only thing that I thought I would change here would be the proximity of the cabins. They are very close to each other.

We have 5 in our family & have stayed at the FW cabins numerous times. We love it. There are many things to do in FW. It is quiet & roomy. The disadvantage over 2 rooms are having 2 bathrooms, however, a huge advantage is the full kitchen. There is also a grill outside. 95% of the time we do breakfast in the room, about 50% lunch & we may do dinner once or twice. I'm not into a lot of cooking on vacation but we love having breakfast in the room because it saves time in the morning. We love to sit on the deck in the morning & evening also. I don't think the cabins are too close together, however, last time we were there they were cutting down much of the "forest" between the cabins because of dryness & they were afraid of fire, so each cabin may not seem as secluded as in the past.

This Nov. (about 3 1/2 wks) we are renting vacation club points at OKW & getting a 2 bedroom unit. I understand this has a full kitchen also. It also has 2 bathrooms & will sleep 8 (my parents are coming also). I will post my opinions when we get back.

We have usually stayed in the cabins during peak times. They are more expensive than getting 2 rooms at All Star, but not more than 2 moderate rooms & IMHO I would rather have the kitchen than the extra bath - but my children are 13, 10 & 10, so the bathroom isn't a huge issue - YET!!

When we don't stay in the cabins & just have a hotel room we take a toaster oven & rent a fridge. This has worked fine also for convenience purposes.

We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Family Suites. It includes a free buffet breakfast & free lunch & dinner for children under 12 (probably wouldn't apply if you have teens). It is a nice resort. Great pool. The "suites" aren't huge, but they are roomy enough.

My vote would be for the cabins for many different reasons. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks everyone!

I had not even thought about Fort Wilderness, what a great idea! I like the idea of having a kitchen. That could save a ton of money, especially with teenagers.

How big is that murphy bed in the living room....we are not such large people but are used to a king bed at home! (I need to stay far from the snoring!:smooth: )

We also have a king at home & let's just say that the murphy bed is "very cozy" for us. but we tolerate it. We could move into the queen in the bedroom but we usually put the kids in there & relax at the end of the day & watch a little news.

One year before we went my husband slid over REAL close to me & said he was practicing. When I asked him for what he said "for the next 14 nights in Disney". It's been a joke now every time we stay in the cabins.

Anyway - if you don't like the murphy there is the queen option!!

Have you thought about renting points for a DVC or booking one of the villas. A two bedroom will sleep 8. You can go to the section of this board that deals with DVC and check how many points you would need and then you can see if anyone is renting. The villas are like suites. If you don't want to rent points, you can book the villas as you would any other room at disney. If they have them available you can book it. They also have them on Expedia & travelocity

You're better off getting connecting rooms at a moderate because then you'll have 2 bathrooms.

The 2-br. DVC villas have 2 bathrooms, 1 'regular' and 1 'split' master bath with commode, sink and shower in 1 room with another sink and whirlpool in the 2nd part. You'll also have a full kitchen along with a washer and dryer.

The master bed room has a King bed, the 2nd bed room with have 2 Queens (OKW) or 1 Queen and a double sofa bed (BWV, VWL and BCV), and a double sofa bed in the living room. I have heard that 'some' BCV do have 2 Q in the 2nd br.
