Which res would you drop?

We went to Boma with three kids in Oct. for dinner. They loved it. From walking out to the savannas before the dinner, to the food at dinner. We also went to O'hana and they loved that to, very interactive w/ the kids. My vote would be H&V, based on all the bad reviews I have read. We have never been there.

I have enjoyed H&V and cant wait to try Boma. I know less about Ohana, so I would probably drop that one.

I'd drop Boma. H&V was lots of fun for my DS and the food was kid friendly, I thought. I booked an ADR first thing in the AM and the place was almost empty on 2 seperate occasions.

Hollywood & Vine. This isn't from personal experience though, based on reviews. I haven't read one good review on it.

I have to say my kids (toddlers) LOVED H&V last February.

They barely watch little einsteins and we've never seen Jojos' but they went totally crazy for these characters, especially the soft lion (Goliath?) - my little one was petting his paws over and over, she was totally enamoured.
And they were sooo excited to get up and dance to the "hot dog" song.

We had a really late breakfast and had half breakfast food and then lunch food toward the end. Frankly I don't even remember the food, I remember my kids having a ball. We are going again this trip since they loved it so much.

Boma wasn't so great for us, they were bored and I felt like the buffet was miles away from where we were seated. It was nice to see the animals after though.

First off you have to read between the lines relative to H&V: people respond to the character meal and the Fantasmic Pkg dinner as though the meals and experience are the same, they are not.

I think the H&V is a must do. You have toddlers, this character meal is geared for the younger kids, you won't' get this opportunity back. Now is the time to go do this one. CRT and CP will still work when they are older. The food will be basic, but filling. The CM and character interaction will be memorable. I gather you selected this for the character aspect, don't second guess yourself now.

Boma breakfast. I think this could be a really good meal. Again there is a bias away from AKL if you aren't already there or on your way there, but it is an amazing resort and the ability to peep some wildlife might be priceless too. Also as you are not staying on site and doing the DP it is one of the least expensive buffets on site. As you've said once you get in the rental car it really won't matter where you go on property. We loved our dinner there and from what I read there are some std and unique items for breakfast.

'Ohana I think this is one that you could indeed wait on given the age of your kids. You may want to read up on it a bit more here on DIS. I seem to recall a lot of "I felt rushed" comments about 'Ohana. You'll need to determine if you read the same things and if that would be an issue for you.

Finally, my advice? Don't cancel a thing right now. Things happen once you get there, you may or may not get CP or CRT, etc. Cancel while you are there and need to make a change of plans. We happened to cancel our H&V breakfast ADR, because at that point in the trip relaxing by the pool for a morning sounded great and there was no way we could have eaten a buffet that AM. We had the H&V Fantasmic pkg booked for the next night and enjoyed that dinner and seating benefit.

Thanks for your detailed perspective :thumbsup2

We did cancel Ohana (for the same reason you mentioned) but have kept Boma and H&V, at least for now.

I realize this isn't something to stress about; we have many future trips to try all these restaurants. I think once I get closer to a trip like this (where there is some degree of planning), I tend to get some anxiety "what have I missed? what about that? oh, maybe this! should we skip that?"

I actually don't want to overkill the character meals, or any table service really, as we spend good money just to get into the park (and don't want the majority of time spent in a restaurant :) ) Not to mention, we are just there for a week and I tend to prefer less structure.

Must keep my mom in mind, too. She will totally buck at being shuffled around from one res to another

H&V -- worse food at Disney (I think it is worse than some of the counter services at the Studios). Two bad meals with even worse service and we won't be back.
