I read on the posts a while ago that one of the rental car agencies was requiring proof of fill-up with in a certain distance of the airport. Does anyone know the company??
I am renting from National next week and do not think they were the company.

Thanks,

I know on the Dollar site it mentions this, but I've never had them ask me when I turn the car in.

National never asked us in December.

Most companies will require this -- it always helps to have it available, to show you filled the tank - you don't want to pay the rental company fuel charges !!!

I've never been asked for a receipt. I did have a situation once where I thought I filled it up at Boardwalk but when we got to the airport, it was down about 1/8 and was charged like $15. Make sure the needle is on full before you leave the gas station.

Every time we return a car, all they do is take a quick (a VERY quick) look at the gauge. I THINK it was Dollar that had the requirement in the contract. Whether or not they enforce it is another issue.
My Alamo contract just says the tank must be full upon return. If you gas up at a WDW Hess and "super-fill" the tank, it will still be on full when you get to the airport. That's what we always do.

Neither Budget nor Dollar ask for a gas receipt. They check the gauge upon return - full is full.

Hertz never has.

Also if that car shows full on the gauge and is accepted that way with a receipt showing it was full on return, it is full.

Many of the rental agencies reserve the right to have you produce the receipt showing you purchased gas within so many miles.

I have had Hertz ask for it in cities other than MCO.

once again I agree with Safetymom. I have been asked in several locations for a receipt

and I have had to dispute a fuel charge before and the receipt was useful in the dispute

There were posts a few months ago about Dollar at MCO asking. Maybe common sense broke out again.

Just returned tonight, National did not require a receipt.

I almost did something really dumb. I always use Avis for my business rentals, which my company requires. I'm so used to looking for the Avis signs. I almost returned my National Car to Avis! I was on A side and I went up the ramp and saw the Avis sign, started to turn right but then it hit me! That would have been embarassing!

Also begs the question just how full is the tank when you pick it up at the airport?? I can recall a few times when the gauge wasn't exactly pinned to the top of "full"....in fact, our last rental (Oct 2006) at Dollar!!
And I wonder if the rental contract does not mention any fill-up radius or receipt, how they can really demand you produce one?? I almost never get a fuel receipt when I fill up.
My Alamo contract just states that if you buy your own fuel and the tank is not "full" upon return, you will be charged an "estimate" of the # of gallons required to fill the tank, based on the "fuel gauge" reading and the vehicles specified fuel tank capacity.
Again, I'm just going to super fill at the WDW Hess and return to the airport. I'll report back in mid May if there was any problem.

Yes, they can demand it. Somewhere in that FINE print it refers you to see the internet and/or the counter for the FULL Terms and conditons you are agreeing to. It's a booK that's desinged to protect the rental car company LOL!

Here's Hertz's terms and agreement. Maybe there is a more current one, but couldn't find it.

To date I have never been asked for one.

Also I just got off the phone with Hertz reservation and he said a gas receipt is not required. Just the gauge has to show full.

The traveler may fill the fuel tank at a gas station within a 10 mile radius of the Dollar rental location and present the gas receipt and there will be no refueling charges.

The charge will be removed only if customers show their gas receipt to a Budget agent, one traveler has already reported, slowing travelers often rushing to catch flights
