Which Publix is the one the podcast team recommends? I can't remember which one they like. Thx!

I live in South Florida and agree with the podcast's recommendations of Publix supermarkets. All the stores I've been in have excellent customer service, are clean and well stocked. The podcast crew probably visit different stores as they live in different parts of Central Florida, but each store is great. There are a few stores close to WDW in Kissimmee, etc.

Whatever you do, DON'T GO TO GOODINGS!!! It was actually cheaper to buy things like chips in the shops at Disney!!! :scared1:

It was horrid, bad selection, silly prices and most stock didn't have a price on at all!

However the one time we stayed offsite, we went to Publix all the time and loved it! Hopefully you will find one you like! :goodvibes

I would agree with Kate 100%. DO NOT GO TO GOODING'S. It's a dive.

There are three Publix close to Disney.

If you are near the Hotel Plaza Blvd / Crossroads side of Disney property, there is a Publix by turning right or turning left.

If you go right, you will need to drive to the intersection of SR 535 and 192.
There is a Publix on the left side. In my opinion, this is the lesser of the two onthis side of Disney property.

If you turn left off HPB onto SR 535 and go about 6 or 7 miles, you will come to the inetrsection with Sand Lake Road. Take a right onto SLR and the Publix is on the right. In my opinion, this is the superior Publix. This area also offers a wide selection of other businesses. Restaurants, drug stores, Barnes and Noble, two Starbucks etc.

If you are on the 192 side of Disney, (Pop, All-Stars, Corornado etc). there is a nice Publix on 192 near Celebration. Coming from Disney, it is on the left side of the road.

Kevin, do you remember the Wegman's grocery chain in Upstate NY? We LOVE Wegman's, they often score very highly on best places to work, and the food is sooooooo good. The flagship Wegman's is our local store that's closest to us. It is a food museum. Anyhow, when we come down and go to Publix it reminds us a lot of Wegman's.

We use a town car service when we go to WDW and their grocery stop takes you to Publix, (the one right by Sea World, pretty much across the street) and I love that store. I soooooooooooooooo wish we had Publix here, our big grocery store chain stinks compared to Publix. I have gotten such great deals and the staff really is wonderful.

I lived on the other side of upstate NY.

We had Price Chopper, Grand Union and ShopRite.

I know some of these are gone and new ones have taken their place, but that's what was there when I lived there.

I shopped at Grand Union.

Now...the only place I shop is Publix.

There is a Suoer Target on 192 near SR 535 that has an Archer Farms Supermarket and I would shop there too. The convenience of a market and a Target is appealing. It just isnt convenient to where I live.

Take this information for what it's worth but on the Publix website when you type in Lake Buena Vista, the closest location to WDW that they list is the one located at 8145 Vineland Ave, in Regency Village Shopping Center and it's right behind the Premium Outlet Mall.

I'm familiar with Price Chopper and Grand Union from when I lived in Vermont, and they don't hold a candle to Publix or Wegman's. I think Grand Union has gone out of business now.

I usually go to Winn Dixie.
However I think I might try Publix when we come down in December.
I like the Winn Dixie b/c the ABC is in the same plaza.

That's the one I've been to, and it sounds like the one Kevin described as the "lesser" of the two that you can get to past Hotel Plaza Blvd. I thought it was pretty fabulous the last time I went there. Now I'm curious to find out what the "better" one has!

I have never been to the Publix near SeaWorld. It's just not in my line of travel.

The Publix on 192 and 535 caters to the tourist crowd. The have a section of the store dedicated to Disney / Orlando / local area doodads. These arent the things I go to a grocery store in search of. There is a Target and Super Walmart nearby where you will find that stuff cheaper. To make room for this section....other stuff has been reduced in size. The deli section, the prepared foods, the bakery etc....

The Publix on Sand Lake Road, while adjacent to the tourist area, is also located in an upscale, residential section of Orlando. This is the Bay Hill, Dr. Phillips area of town. It's my opinion that selection is broader, the deli, bakery, prepared foods are.....they are all expanded compared to the other Publix.

If you are looking for milk, bread, beer, chips etc......any Publix will do. If you are looking for the best fried chicken / chicken tenders, made to order subs, rotisserie chicken, deli meats etc......I'd go to the one on SLR. It;s a better exoerience in my opinion.....and there is a Starbucks next door.

Okay, I don't know where I got this in my head, but when you guys talked about Publix on previous podcasts for some reason I though it was a gas station with a mini-mart...I was shocked that a gas station sold fried chicken- and such highly praised fried chicken at that! :rotfl:

I love Publix. You can't beat their fried chicken, subs, bakery. There are several in the area that I love to shop in. I am also a fan of the Super WalMart on 535 and the Super Target on 192.

There is a fourth Publix that we visited when we were staying at AKV last April. It's pretty close to AKL/AKV, although you have you go the long way around to get there. It's on E. Orange Lake Blvd, across from the SuperTarget on 192, right by the new western expressway toll road.

It seemed pretty nice but I didn't have any other Publix to compare to, since we previously went to the Winn Dixie on 535. It was definitely bigger than the W-D, and the prices seemed reasonable.

We like the Publix at the intersection of SR 535 and 192 because of its proximity to WDW. We always buy our groceries there for our DVC visits. The prices are great compared to Disney and they have excellent prepared foods. The service is friendly and quick, too.

Which Publix is closest to VWL? We will be staying there next month. In the past, we have gone to Winn Dixie but I want to give Publix a try this time.

Thanks Kevin & everyone! I knew if I asked about it on the boards, I'd get a good answer. I thought it was the Sand Lake Publix that had been recommended, but wasn't 100% sure. I'm heading to WDW in November, and will definitely try it out. And yes, I've learned my lesson about Goodings!
