Which places without characters do you like best for young kids?

I have not seen Biergarten mentioned, but the show there is quite fun for kids.

I vote for Sci Fi for the atmosphere that both kids and cults will enjoy. Also whispering canyon is tons of fun especially when you ask for ketchup!

Another vote for San Angel Inn. My DD loved eating inside Mexico and looking at the boat ride and volcanoe when she was that age. We also did Sci-Fi at that age as well and all 3 of us fit in one row of the car with no issues. My DD LOVED the light up ice cubes!

Sci Fi Diner..... Nice to chill inside with the AC =) Also the GIANT movie screen lets the kids veg for a little and watch a movie while they eat and you get to eat in car!

Totally agree and if your four year old has never been to a drive in theatre, this is the chance to talk about how things were "back in the day" (although maybe you haven't been to a drive in either :)). The film clips are harmless so if your son can do T-Rex, he can see the show. I will caution that you sit in cars that seat two people comfortably in one row so one adult might need to be in front or in the back of the other but we've eaten here with six adults and have been able to talk to each other through the meal.

Boma for breakfast is great. You can walk outside and see the Savannah. The restaurant theme is cool too.

Also, Trails End in Ft Wilderness is a nice spot for kids. The have an ear outside with hula hoops and other little toys/games for the kids to play. Plus just a little walk around the wilderness if fun.

Liberty Tree Tavern Lunch is also a unique experience. Old New England Tavern and comfort foods!

We took DS in December of 2015 when he was 4. He really enjoyed 'Ohana for dinner as the server brought him out a big bowl of macaroni and cheese and cupcakes for dessert. The table next to us had young children that had hot dogs in addition to macaroni and cheese. Just have to ask the server.

My kids loved Via Napoli in Epcot. They also really liked BOG for dinner. Even thought the Beast is there, it isn't technically a character meal.

Crystal Palace blew the socks of my daughter when she was 3. We even returned years later and had just as much fun.

My kids (one of whom was 4 at the time we went) said that Coral Reef was their fav restaurant above all the character meals they went to. It is not my fav. The food was just ok and it was the first time we went and the pics made it look like all the tables were right by the tanks (they aren't although they have a reasonable view). We are trying San Angel in May - someone here pointed out that you can take the kids on the ride while waiting for food to arrive. Sold! :teeth:

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions! I hadn't considered Rainforest Cafe, because we have one near us. (We used it as a dry run for a Disneyland trip - we figured if our LO could handle the animals and stimulation there, he would be OK at Disney.) But I'll keep that in mind in case we need some place that feels familiar on our trip, if something doesn't turn out the way we planned.

Disnut, I laughed when I read your post! Not only did I go to drive-in movies as a child - there were rides and a playground under the screen, and we would eat dinner and ride the rides in our pajamas, and then sleep during the 2nd movie - I even went to one on a date! (The Adventures of Won Ton Ton?) I am considering to go to Sci-Fi for an afternoon snack, just for the atmosphere.

I would love to add all the places suggested, but that would mean we'd have to extend our stay - hmmmmmmmm ;) And of course, if someone else has a recommendation, I would love to know what you think, even if it has already been mentioned.

Yes! Any kid we have ever traveled with has LOVED being able to get out on the dance floor and get some energy out with the awesome German band. The food is great too and even picky eaters will find something. The huge beers are a bonus

While it was just ok for the adults, my 5 year old nephew loved coral reef.

I know everyone's opinions are different, but I personally wouldnt recommend sci-fi. Yeah, the atmosphere is cool, but I think they should rename it and play more up to date or kid friendly clips. not that they were scary or inappropriate, but in Disney I'd rather see some clips from some more recent Disney films or even Disney classics. Heck, I'm in my 30s and hated the clips.

My son will always tell you that Via Napoli, and Garden Grill are non-negotiable for him. I know that Garden Grill is characters, which you aren't looking for, but it is one of his favorites.

He also likes Tusker House at AK, though that is also characters at Breakfast.
