Which phone???

Does anyone else have the same problem with the battery? I want to get the Droid but I need a phone that has a battery that lasts more than 1 day.

Unlike certain other phones (which shall remain namesless), you can buy an extra battery for it and swap it out if necessary. Imagine, being able to actually take care of your OWN phone without paying a "genuis" through the nose.

I used to do that with some of my older phones...but then they stopped selling chargers that could charge just the batteries, making it a pain...

I :lovestruc my Droid. I have had it since late fall '09. I am a loyal Verizon customer and when they get the iPhone I will switch to that, but for now I am really finding my Droid amazing. Battery life is good for me. I turn off the wi-fi feature and turn the screen brightness down to just under medium. I don't have a problem with that level. I believe there is so much more that this piece of equipment will do, (I don't use a lot of apps) but, for me, it meets my needs.

My (motorola) Droid battery lasts a good while. I am not a heavy user and my battery can last 2+ days. Plus, the charger charges it really fast. I can be at work, plug it in and it is fully charged in 2 hours. The first few days I had it I used it VERY heavily and the battery lasted 1 day. I don't use Task Killer but I've heard very good things. The Droid is blazing fast on all my apps---much faster than my Touch. :thumbsup2

My wife and I have had moto droids since december. I get a little more than 2 days life on normal days - an hour or two of talking, a couple dozen texts, half hour internet access each day. My wife takes pride in pushing hers. She's gotten almost 4 days before. I bought an extra battery but really have never needed it. The ability to buy a battery was what pushed me to go ahead and buy the droid and quit waiting on the iphone for verizon. I've spent several days in the parks where I was using it heavily and it still lasted all day. Every few weeks I let the running battery drain all the way down then swap the batteries out. the onscreen keyboard is very usable and the slide out keyboard is great.

previous post is correct - you'll want to download advanced task killer. (free)

handcent is a better text messaging client than the built in one. (free)

I haven't found a good podcast app yet. there are a couple but I had issues with all of them. so I download on my PC to iTunes then copy to the phone.

there is a "widget" you can put on your home screen to turn off bluetooth, wifi, gps, sync. I leave bluetooth and wifi off if I'm not using it. One click on/off.

So it looks like the Droid is it. I will probably wait until June or July just to make sure there isn't a usually June Apple announcement.

I really hope that Verizon does get the IPhone. I have it with AT&T and I absolutely hate their service. I really love my IPhone though, so I will put up with the service until Verizon gets it.

FYI, I just learned about the HTC Droid Incredible, which from what I've heard is very close to the Nexus One...so if you want an Android 2.1 phone, but don't care about the physical keyboard, wait a couple weeks...

Little late to the game, but I wanted to throw in another vote for the Driod. I've had mine since January and am still loving it. I'm a pretty heavy user and I leave bluetooth on all the time, but not wifi. I never turn the phone off, and I can get 24 to maybe 36 hours out of the phone with my normal use.

I came to Verizon from a KILLER Sprint plan (the old SERO500 plan for those that know) and I am more than happy to pay the extra $$ each month for Verizon. I had crap for service with Sprint, with my home and office both being in a dead spot for voice and data. Verizon has been awesome everywhere I've gone. I had a Blackberry Curve with Sprint. When I first changed to the Droid, I had some slight issues with wanting it to work like the BB, but once I figured the Droid quirks I was good! IMO, the two best things are the apps and the synch with Google. I love being able to have one single calendar that I can access from anywhere at any time that auto synchs any changes.

Before I got the Eris, I did do some research and they all said the battery was the one con to the phone.

Not having one myself yet, but having colleagues who do, there is an app that lets you easily turn on/off bluetooth and wifi and extending the battery life. Not sure by how much though. But such is the life of these high-end devices...

I have the bluetooth and wifi turned off. I manually turn it on when I need it.

I downloaded a free 'task killer' on my Droid and it makes sure any unneccesary things running in the background are "killed" to preserve battery life.

The battery life on the Droid is very good - depending on usage of course.

This being my first smart phone, I'm not the best with apps and such. I think I downloaded a task killer (it was a pic of the little droid guy w/an "X" through it?) and to be honest, I just didn't know what to do with it, if anything. Do you mind telling me which one you use and what you actually have to do after it's installed?

I have a Droid Eris and the battery is awful. I don't get more than 24hrs unless I turn off 3g and wi-fi. I also make sure to use the app killer app. If I do all that I can get 2 days.

The app I use is called advanced app killer (I think). I run the app after I've used my phone for anything. The programs may look like they have closed but they keep running in the background draining the battery. The app killer will shut all your programs down and help conserve battery life.

I used to use that one but you might find a better one. I m using one that is called. Advanced Task Manager Free by Arron la (symbol is a blue phone inside a blue cog). The main difference so far is it loads fast, and the amount of information is KILLER. I found that the old one was giving me general info, but not sometimes the programs that were running. That is why I got the new Task Manger program. I know exactly what's on my system and its easy to use.

Couldn't agree more. Not to mention the devs website has got easy instructions.

You can customize so much its almost rediculous. My wife hated her "droid" phone, but after a few days... I have created a monster!

:)

Has anyone found a good calendar app for the Droid Eris? I don't like the calendar that came installed on the phone.

Thanks!!

I just got the droid and have to say I LOVE it!!! Even if verizon gets the iphone this summer, I don't think I would switch. I am truly in love with the phone and all the free apps out there. I even got a program to sync it with Itunes. It's a fantastic little phone. I don't use the slideout keyboard much because the on screen one is quite good once it learns your words.

Are you using the Motorola program or another program to sync with iTunes? If another program does it mark you podcasts as listened to or remember where you stopped listening at?
