which park first

We are going to WDW for 10 days in Jan. I am wondering which park to do the first day a Monday. I have heard that the MK is very crowded on Mondays and was thinking of making Resv. for the CB at AK spending the morn. at AK then the Evening at MK to see the parade and fireworks. My dd is 5 and son 3.5 what do you think?

Hi, I have a question first: In your post you state that you will be at DW for 10 days. Is it fair to assume that you will be spending another day or so at MK other than the Monday you are asking about?

Well, we will be at DW in November for 10 days. We will be spending 2 whole days at MK because our DD 2 loves it so much. Our "first" park day is also Monday. We will be spending Monday at Epcot.

I do not see a problem at all with your idea about spending day at AK and then heading over to MK for the fireworks etc. Since you do have two young children I was just curious if you would be spending more time at MK other than that evening. It would be sad for them to be disappointed if they couldn't go on any rides there. Maybe you could go there in the late afternoon on Monday so you could take them on a few rides before seeing the fireworks.

I think it depends on your kids and their expectations.

Although MK is not our favorite park, it is the park that announces we are at Disney. If it were my family, we'd head to MK on Monday morning - first thing! We'd spend maybe two hours there, beeline to Dumbo with a five year old, get a few other Fantasyland attractions in before the crowds. Then we'd hop - probably not to AK, that park closes fairly early - though the trails can be a great and relatively crowd free way to spend an afternoon - probably we'd hop to Epcot or MGM. Have lunch - either on our way out, or at the new park after the hop. Enjoy that park for a few hours, maybe head back to the hotel for a swim about 2 or 3 before getting dinner and seeing fireworks.

We are big hoppers in case you can't tell.

I do believe we will be spending much more time in MK than any other place. My DD will be celbrating her 5th B-day the following Monday so I am sure we will spend that whole day there. I wanted someplace we could see how they would be around the Characters. I have to make Resv. On Monday so I am trying to make some plans. Thanks for all the help

We just return with my DGD 4yr old from 8 days at WDW. It was her first trip and we started with AK. There are so many characters there for your little one to see. We then went to MGM the 2nd day and MK the 3rd. I did not want to spring MK on her first and have the other parks seem like a let down because of all the excitment of MK. She did really great, but get an autograph book, it does break the ice for your little one with the characters. She loved all the parks and we returned to MGM Epcot and MK at least 3 times during our trip AK we returned 1 more time. Also MGM has many characters to meet as well. We found the least amount of characters at Epcot except for the tour bus they have.

I agree with Indigoxtreme, we took our kids when they were 5 and 9. Our first park was Epcot, then Ak then MGM and then finally Magic Kingdom. My 5 year old said why did we wait for this one when we walked up to MK, but until that moment, he was having a blast at all of the other parks and to this day Epcot is still the first park we go to when we arrive after 13 trips. They were able to enjoy each park for all of the wonderful things they offer, before becoming so enchanted by MK. They are now 11 and 15 and still love all of the parks. On our first trip we met another family on our 4th day at our hotel after we had visited each park once, that had not been able to pry their kids out of MK. Get a good book like the Unofficial Guide, read up on what they will enjoy, like the Living Seas Nemo exhibit, making a mask at all of the countries in Epcot and really enjoy the park. Watch the Lion King before you go and go to the Lion King musical in Ak so the songs will be familiar to them. They would love the muppet show in MGM and Beauty and the Beast. We still see it every time. Also Indiana Jones. Have a great trip!!!
