If you had the option between for a family of 4 — kids will be 7 & 17 *this is a holdiay trip in December & also the kids 1st trip and a special one*

— 3 day trip VIP tour 1 day LLP & 1 day LLMP
— 5-6 day trip LLMP

Which way would you go?
Or another?

Extra days option. Enjoy the most time to explore and enjoy the parks. Look into taking a guided tour like: A Story of Celebration…(or a World of Color dessert party). Save the expense and be your own VIP tour guide. Ultimately do what fits your own budget and desires but given those choices..more days.

I will say- my teenagers top out at 2-3 days. Is your older child interested in that many days?

I have kids with a large age span too and a long trip gets challenging keeping everyone happy (kids currently 9, 17, 19).

But we sre also west coast and come once rt twice a year, so it’s not that novel for the big kids.

5-6 day trip with either 5 park days and a resort/LA day or 5 park days and a 1 day visit to Knott's Berry.

We're about to do 4.5 park days and 1 day at Knott's Berry next month and I have a 17 and 15 year old but we've been multiple times. I think the kids will love it and not be able to get enough. 5 days you can really take your time.

I would do more days. My kids are 17 and 19 and we go every two years for two weeks so it’s not novel to them. Plus I talk about the Disney trip so much before we go that sometimes I think they are sick of the trip before we get there LOL (I’m working on keeping that in check). We never rope drop and get to experience Disney as an actual vacation and not “madness”. I’d always pick more days…

Def more days. A VIP tour, for most people, should be utilized only if you can only be there one day, IMHO. If you can be there 5 days, you'll have ample time to do everything in multiples, should you choose.

Having taken several "tours", I wouldn't waste my time or money. Even if you don't know a lot of the history, you'll only get a brief bit of knowledge from this. I DEFINITELY would do the WOC Dessert Party as a special treat...the holiday show is great.

I’d do the 3 days. 3 days is my sweet spot. 2 days is not quite enough and 4+ gets to be too much. With a VIP tour and PP you are going to get a lot done in less time.

More days, and I'd stay on site. In Dec, it's so much fun to see all of the decorations and holiday attractions. More days when it's first time for the kids makes it easier to do things at a less frantic pace and still see what you want and repeat what you love. You can take more time for dining if you want--Blue Bayou, maybe a F! dining reservation, etc. Are you staying on site? That makes it nice to come and go and let the kids have a little free time, and during the holidays the decor is amazing. They have Santa in the lobby and you can get a family pic in front of the giant tree in the Grand and last I looked they had Santa with a mid-century-modern setting in DLH. I'm not sure what they have at Pixar.

I would favor the VIP, LLPP, LLMP, but it does depend on your priorities and your kids.

I would really favor this type of trip if you could put a resort day in middle of it (maybe after the VIP day) but not sure if that would be in the budget? Doing all of those days back to back might be too much for some kids or teens (or adults for that matter!). My late teens would absolutely love to do this itinerary!

We have done several WDW VIP tours (maybe one day at DLR!), and they are wonderful if your kids really like rides (and sometimes also for characters; also gives you VIP fireworks and parade viewing which may or may not be important to your family). It is a VERY FULL day, and we always pretty much go non-stop, so we are tired at the end! You realize that standing in lines is a rest time that you have very little of on the VIP tour! So a resort day (or at least a sleep in a little day) after the VIP day can be nice. You could do your LLPP day following the VIP day, if you don’t have the budget to do a resort day here, as you don’t need to rope drop or get there super early for your LLPP day.

Also, as the person who is booking the LLs (and modifying and modifying…), I would LOVE to do LLPP one day so that I can just enjoy the day, my family and atmosphere. I picture it like a VIP-lite.

But if your kids are going to be fried, or they don’t like rides, or they need a lot of breaks, then the longer trip gives you more time for that. And maybe more time for other things like shows etc. It really depends on your family’s style and your goals for the trip, Either way, it sounds like a great trip!!

This is SO true. I was absolutely exhausted by the end of our VIP day (we also just did our family of four). You don't realize how much rest you get just standing in line until you never stand in line! We did a cabana day at the pool the day after, which was perfect. Actually, we frequently do 5 days in the park with a cabana day midway through. Just need the break.

You've got a tough decision. You say it's a special trip, which to me would mean that's perfect for VIP, **but** you also say it's your kids' first trip. I'd be cautious about setting expectations too high by doing VIP my first trip, and you're already going at Christmas, which would be special in itself.

Also, I don't know what your financial situation is, but one thing to consider is that the price of the VIP is so expensive these days -- is that something you know you'll always be able to afford if you put it off for another time? That hasn't always been the case for us, so I'm glad we did it when it was in the cards.

What is the intent of your trip? What will the VIP tour give you that 2-3 additional days in the parks (and with your family) will not?
That’s a good question and one I’ve have a hard time answering. The main reason I was thinking of doing a VIP was being the holidays. I was worried about it being so busy, and that it would make it a lot more enjoyable — but I’ve also heard it really only gets you into LL. The VIP also has been a bucket list of mine. Everyone in my family would appreciate it but it probably would not grass how special it was if I’m being 100% honest. Do not get me wrong. They will be over the moon about not waiting 45+ minutes in line and they would know it was a very big deal. It’s also a very special trip and not just because it’s the kids first. They’re older siblings (they are adult) have all been to DL/WDW and we plan to bring them all in a big family trip in the future. We have had to reschedule this trip sadly several times due to a lot of pretty devastating factors my brother died very unexpectedly January 2020. Then Covid hit and we were some of the people who really had to quarantine It was the only way for us to have any type of in person with my in-laws. I have asthma so I had to be also cautious. Then my father-in-law died, but he did live a very long and very fulfilling and happy life, but it definitely was hard in our family. Less than two weeks before Christmas last year I was hit by a drunk driver and it was a pretty bad accident. Thankfully, no one died and I know firsthand that it could’ve been a lot worse. My sister was kind of car accident went back in 2007. I was also thankful the only one in the car but I spent 6 months recovering from a pretty TBI. it was hard because where I looked 'normal' I wasn’t physically or mentally and I was going to the doctor 3 to 4 times a week for vision, PT, cognitive, and another type of appointment, but I’m also beyond lucky that I also was able to have access to be able to go to all of those without having to wait. I also developed post concussion POTS. But I’m alive and even with all that, I’m more intuned with body than I ever have been I’m probably actually maybe even healthier than I’ve been ever in my life — because I really have to be and I just cannot be and I work out six days a week, but don’t get me wrong there’s still hard days. But as cliché as it sounds, and maybe the only people that might really understand this might be on this forum is the one thing that really got me through all of it was planning the silly trip or I should say trips, lol when I laid in an 1.5hr MRI, I seriously closed my eyes the whole time and just thought about bringing my daughter to Disneyland & the upcoming college tours, we’re doing with our youngest son. I think I sat on sofa for 6 months that I wasn’t at the doctors office looking at different vacation things to try to take my mind off thing disassociating — which I know is not healthy, but it’s what got me through especially when I was dealing with debilitating migraines & vertigo.

Don’t get me wrong there’s been a lot of amazing things that has happened the last 5 years. Also, it’s just been speckled away a lot of heartache, but it’s also proven to me that I have a lot stronger than ever was.

Unfortunately, because I’ve spent so much time focused on looking especially at this trip. It has made it very hard to make any type of decision. I know that our family’s gonna have an amazing time, no matter what. I don’t believe it’s going to be disappointing at all. So it’s not that I’m worried about something being disappointing — Even if every ride broke down when we were there. Now I’m not gonna lie if there’s no fireworks that is gonna break my heart a little bit but still LOL I’ve just done probably the worst thing anyone can do and maybe over planned. so now I’m almost worried about choosing the wrong thing. It’s funny because also we’re planning another return trip back… So it’s not even like this is a one and done type thing. Even more so because they’re such a big age difference with our youngest daughter We plan on bringing her 1-2x going forward.

Sorry for such a long rant that wasn’t supposed to be as long as I thought it was going to be

The dessert party is something that I’ve had my heart set on forever and it has to happen that fireworks! One of my core memories as a kid was going to Christmas on Disneyland so I’m gonna be head over heels, but Disneyland fireworks really get me emotional and I’ve never experienced a dessert party so it has to happen lol

I really want to do some tours. I would really love to do the Bob Gurr Waltland tour also and I worry that I could possibly maybe never do it if I don’t do it soon. I would be happy just with them going on all the rides and we just do the guided tours! I would love to also be able to be in Walt’s apartment at least once!

so our oldest is really a teenager who were almost too lucky when it comes to his flexibility with our oldest three probably I would’ve maybe answer differently. For the 50th anniversary, my oldest son we were able to scrim together enough to go for 2 days. He’s an amazing young man, but he’s made some even a hand comments that he wishes we would’ve just brought him to Legoland instead and even Disneyland wasn’t even that great….. He was five years old and really into Legos. I will never let him know this, but it broke my heart just a little bit even more so because at that time, it was very hard to make that trip happen. But the youngest he’s really down for anything and if anything he’s going to live it up for a sister! I had even brought it up to him previously if he wanted to really go I had posted another comment what had happened to our previous trip and I could tell he was shocked that I would even imply that he didn’t wanna go. Even when we were looking at a DCL vs Royal when it came to cruises, he was the first to chime in that he would be OK with either…. And he really meant. but when it comes to Disney overall he could take it early, but he does love roller coasters and goes to Six Flags all the time we’re here in Colorado and get season passes every summer. I definitely think it’s going to be a trip he will enjoy

I really do need to go back to Knotts as adult it is one of my 1st childhood memories was going to get a chicken dinner with my great aunt! We were thinking of doing a combo roadtrip from SF down the coast to LA & then ending in DL and it taking a total of 10-14 days. I was just worried with the time of year might not be the best time

Don’t get me wrong I’ve rope drop before They’re just really wasn’t an option, but I’m not gonna sit here and say I enjoyed it either…. I know a lot of people will say they do but no, I didn’t😬 I was just nearly out of the fear of not being able to be able to hit, especially fantasyland easily

you know that’s actually a good take on it and something I don’t know why especially with all my research then I even should’ve been on here. I didn’t even kind of think of. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of it as one day type of experience instead of a kick off to a multi day one. And it might be because I’ve always seen the trip as a multi day version. When it comes to history, that is something that even though I don’t get wrong, I think there’s people who know a lot more me, but I could definitely go with toe to toe with most people. I would love to experience Bob Gurr’s Waltland tour and I worry that if I don’t probably do it soon that might not be something ever happens. I also probably would be happy with them just going on ride to meet us doing the individual tours and just even be able to go into Walt’s apartment! WOC Dessert party is 100% happening!

this definitely seems like the sweet spot for most people so I 100% agree! I think this would also apply to for my husband possibly. If it was any other time other than the holidays which is what has made me worry about not being able to possibly hit everything

My goodness, you've been through a lot! It is what you dreamed about and you are making it happen. Kudos to you!

I think my original question was more about whether this was a vacation so that the family could spend time together (while they are still willing) or is a trip to try and conquer everything because you might never come back? If it is about spending time together, I would choose the longer vacation. If it about conquering the world, go for the tour.
