I'm trying to plan a trip for the fall. We have a large group, but typically do not all stay at the same resort. My husband and I do not have children, though 4 will be in our group, and prefer to stay in Deluxe. Last trip in 2010we stayed at BWI and really enjoyed it. We want to stay in MK area this year and are tottering between booking Contemporary vs. Grand Floridian.

My question is which one? Which one has nicer rooms/views? Which hotel is less run down? Obviously the Contemp has better values, but is staying at GF worth the extra $$? Has the either been renovated recently? What are the benefits of each?

Can you stay concierge, Royal Palm Court, in the main building of the GF? That is the ultimate.
The Contemporary has really cool rooms but the lobby and monorail area are always crazy busy.

I would go with the contemporary as there will be building works going on at the GF to build the new GF DVC villas. Why not try BLT, all the fun and location of the Contemporary but much quieter and newer.

My choice would be the GF. We've never stayed at the CR as the theme/decor has no appeal to us, but we love the GF. The CR has the walkway to MK, but the GF is just a monorail ride away. All of the monorail resort rooms are comparable in size, so there's really no difference there. I would go with the one that the theme/atmosphere appeals to you the most.

Thanks for the info on GF construction.
I also "heard" that CR will be having some construction on the top floor. Does anyone know if this is true?

I would go with the Contemporary because their rooms are among the biggest of the Deluxe Resorts, the walkway to the Magic Kingdom and their rates are less expensive then the Grand Floridian. Also if you happen to have a car while you are at WDW their self parking lots are a lot closer to their entrance at the Tower, where as at the Grand Floridian their self parking lot is located across the street and it's a far walk.

Also it was thought that there would be construction on the Tower Club 14th floor of the Contemporary, however those plans are no longer going to happen. Although even if that was going to happen it wouldn't effect you or anyone else since you can't see the 14th floor and that means not being able to hear anything.
