Which one?

For a family of 4 that doesn't want to go super cheap but neither expensive .... which one of the moderate Disneyland pkg hotels would you pick? Two adults and two kids age 6/7. Want something clean and nice ... but DH doesn't want CHEAP feeling.

I've stayed at the Fairfield and Howard Johnson. They were both fine, but I would stay at Howard Johnson.

Candy Cane Inn! It is within walking distance but they also have a free shuttle so it's nice to have both options available. They also have free parking and a free breakfast. The breakfast is actually pretty good for that type of hotel breakfast. They usually have bagels (including several flavors of cream cheese), muffins, fruit, oatmeal, cold cereal, juice, etc. The hotel is really just a 2 story motel but they've fixed it up to look really cute so I think it's one of the nicer looking hotels within walking distance. There is nice landscaping and the driveway/parking lot is made with pavers which gives it a sort of quaint feel. The pool isn't that big but the pool area looks nice.

I'm sure you'll get lots of different answers since everyone has their favorites but that's the one I would pick.

I've stayed at the Fairfield and Howard Johnson. They were both fine, but I would stay at Howard Johnson.

Never stayed at either of these but they are nice and close, thats for sure. Lots of good press for the Howard Johnson on these boards too.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort Area, I had some free nights I had to use and it was a nice hotel and very moderately priced, but it was kinda far from the park and required driving.

Courtyard looks really nice and has family suites with bunk beds, looks really nice for families so the kids have more space, but its a little far for walking, but a cab, ART shuttle or driving are options too.

We've stayed at Howard Johnson's and really enjoyed it. The beds are comfy, rooms are clean, staff is friendly, and if you are going when the entertainment card rate is available the price can't be beat. Oh, and their water play area is awesome!

I'd go with BWPPI, it is as close as you can get to the crosswalk on Harbor.
The rooms are nice and they offer suites.

If your family enjoys swimming and will be using the pool I would definitely go with Howard Johnson. If that is not an issue, the Candy Cane Inn is very nice also. The breakfast and free shuttle are both great!

We absolutely LOVE the Hojo. No cheap feeling at all, the kids will love the pool and Castaway Cove, and the staff are super friendly.

Another vote for the Candy Cane Inn! I prefer it to Hojo's although Hojo does hae a great pirate themed waterplay area for your kids. I love the free breakfast and the shuttle at the CCI as well as the lovely grounds

Hojo's and Candy Cane Inn are good bets for you. They both have a solid reputation around here. We have done BWPPI in recent years because they can accomodate a family of 6 better and are the closest to DLR.
