Which One ??

AKV also has a one bedroom that sleeps 5. Did you take into account that it costs MORE points to stay at BLT for the comparable villa size vs. AKV?

Yep we did. There were lots of factors in our decision process. Like I said, my DH liked AKV more, but I didn't. I just wanted to be able to buy. Realisticaly, when I travel with just our youngest, who is 4, the BLT can't be beat for us location wise. I went twice in 2008 just the 2 of us, so I think that will be a great choice for us to be able to use. And hey, I can always stay at AKV and use less points if I choose to...availability and all that working for us. AND still pay less maintenence fees. As my Dad used to say, "That is why they make french fries and mashed potatoes. Not everone likes the same thing."

Wot's a Baked potato????:crazy2: Haven't you ever heard of tater ToTs::yes:: But Yes We finally got A call back from DVC , Now my Dileema (Which one member introduced us to is) Possibly buying a resale for that much cheaper, and only losing like 2 or 3 years off of the 50 total. Is this true????

Whether you purchase directly from Disney or on the resale market, the contract length is the same. For example, all AKV contracts expire on Jan 31, 2057 no matter how you purchase the contract. You cannot get a 50-year AKV contract by buying from Disney. If you purchase a BCV or BWV or VWL or un-extended OKW or VB or HHI, the contract expires on Jan 31, 2042 whether you purchase directly from Disney or on the resale market. Extended OKW contracts expire Jan 31, 2057. SSR expires on Jan 31, 2054. BLT expires Jan 31, 2060 I think.

....ugh!! :crazy2: Too much thinking fer ME...!!!

What's the difference between VB and VB(sub) on the maintenance fee table?
VB ended up being smaller than originally planned so the maintenance fees ended up being spread across fewer members than expected. As a result, those that bought in first (before the decision was made to reduce the size of the resort) get their dues subsidized by Disney. As I understand it, the subsidy is not passed on when the contract is resold so anyone buying into VB now would have to pay the dues in the VB column, not the VB (subsidized) amount, even if the seller was eligible for the subsidy on that contract.

OK. One question, Is there any way of knowing which points have gone up quicker(in the past), or which will stay around the same, Or will they all roughly go up at the same rate. This may be a Huge factor in choosing which place to call HOME. Please Help. thanx.

I may be misunderstanding your question..... but it was explained to me, and I read it in my paperwork when I closed that the points values do not change.
It will always cost 12 points to stay in a studio , for example. The points required to stay there will not go up, so your investment will not depreciate. That was a concern of mine.

If you are talking about re-sale value, I would only imagine that a smaller resort would be valued a bit highter because of supply and demand.

Sorry to be so long- winded.

I compared the cost of a re-sale online (AKL), to the cost of buying at the BLT (through DVC , obviously no resales yet).
Figured the cost of each vacation, and ultimately decided on the BLT, because it was what I really wanted, and came out to appx. 100.00 more per year. I wasn't going to let a hundred dollars deter me from the vacation I really wanted. ($5000.00 more for the initial investment)

I took into consideration that I could book 11 months out at my home resort, and the Contemporary was where I really wanted to be.

I am a new owner, but I heard, and believe that the Saratoga owners, many have no intention of staying there, just bought there b/c points were cheaper. They will "flood the market" at the 7 month point making it more difficult to get into other desirable resorts.

Well I think my Dilemma has finally been answered. Although I haven';t signed the papers yetr. I am really close(until The signatures) to calling BLT My Home away from HOME.. Yippeeee...:cheer2: :) :cheer2:

You know, every time I see the BLT initials I think the same thing. They really goofed ( no pun intended) when chosing the name and initials. Of course, it didn't stop me from buying thought. Just makes me hungry.

Good for you. It's such a fun decision isn't it???

When you figured in the cost, did you also figure in that if you buy at BLT, you get extra years? I think AKV expires in 2057, where BLT expires in 2060. I think that is worth mentioning.

We may be some of those people who bought at BLT that might try to book at AKV because of the cheaper points. Well I guess we probably want to try all of the DVC resorts out eventually, and several of them are a cheapre point value. But in my opinion....I just simply love the location of BLT.

There are a couple of items that will effect BLT.
1. Transportation Cost - The monorail cost will be part of the total transportation cost for BLT (this could be higher than other DVC's) :moped:

2. It takes more points to stay there so there are more points available to sell which in the end will help keep the MF's lower. :thumbsup2

There are a couple of items that will effect BLT...

1] Whether the bacon is crispy or not
2] If the mayo has been out too long
3]Wilted lettuce

:rotfl2: [...sorry, I just couldn't resist....!]

Don't forget toasted vs. untoasted, that's a huge thing for me! :rotfl:

Welcome home!! We made the decision to buy into BLT vs. AKV for pretty much all the same reasons. Our guide really pushed AKV, she said it was the resort most people were interested in, due to the novelty and unique qualities of the animals, etc. However, she said those who know WDW and are seasoned Disney travelers buy into "the sandwich". They see it as a better long term investment (due to extra years, less MF's), and it's "Landmark" quality. I know we'll definitely be moving around and staying at different resorts, but BLT is probably the one we'll stay at the most. :)
