I have no clue. Our kids were never interested and this year! WOW DD wants a game boy, easy enough! DS who will 7 wants one that works on the TV.
I went to look but just became so confussed! I dont know which one to get. Any ideas?

Since you have younger kids, get Gamecube! Also, if you are getting DD a Gameboy, you can buy a Gameboy Player that allows you to play your GB games on the Gamecube. I also feel that the controllers are the easiest to use on Gamecube vs the other systems. If you were to go with one of the others, than I would say PS2 as there are more games for kids than on XBox. I work at TRU in the game section, so please feel free to PM me with any specific questions! :wave2:

We have a Game Cube and the kids(4&8) love it. I didn't know which one to choose either but then after doing some research I found the the Game Cube was the one most recommended for kids under 12.

Playstation 2 is the biggest brand out there, with the biggest library of games. My favorite. PS 3 will be out in late 2005 / early 2006.

XBox is great too. Plus it has a better online gaming component than the PS. And it has a built in hard drive. XBox 2 will be out in mid 2005.

Both of the above can play DVD's, though the XBox requires a separate remote control to do so.

Gamecube is more designned for the under 15 crowd. But if you have a gameboy there is an attachment, which I don't have, that allows you to see / play all your gameboy games on a TV, through your GAMECUBE. But there are hardcore NINTENDO folks who wouldn't have anything but Nintendo.

Hope that helps!:p

Leaving you still in a land of confusion.

exellent! I didn't know that about game boy games! I think then we will go with the cube! Figure by the time the kids are 12plus something else will be out there and ready for a change!

Since your DS is asking for the "one on TV" I recommend PS2. Way more boy games. I am sorry but the game selection is very poor for Gamecube. Go check out Blockbuster/WalMart with your DS and see what kind of games he gravitates to...

Now I do like the Gamecube, alot in fact, but it is built cheap and we are on #3 already. It won't last you that long.

I have to disagree there. We have had our Gamecube for two yaers with no problems at all. In the same time, friends of ours have gone through 3 PS2s and 2 XBoxs.

As for the games, yes, PS2 does offer more. However if he is 7, there are a lot of games for him on Gamecube. Also, most younger kids I run into at work want the Mario games and you can only get those on Gamecube.

You really need to figure out what games the will want to play. DS wanted to play Kingdom Hearts, so we bought a PS2.

Well I guess it is the luck of the draw. We have had our PS2 and had no problems. No problem with the XBOX either.
Even this Gamecube "glitches".

Yes, you need to figure out which games he likes. Gamecube & PS2 are entirely different.

Get a DS gamecube and the attachment to play Game Boy Advance games on the gamecube. Get DD the Game Boy Advance. Our DSs (7 and 9) like the wireless gamecube controllers because they can move around more. I like the wireless because it allows them to sit farther back from the TV screen.

The gamecube/gameboy system has the best selections for younger kids (10 and under). By the time your kids outgrow the gameboy/gamecube selections, there will be a new system.

We have all 3 also. I would definitely recommend either the Gamecube or the PS2 for the younger ones. We have had no trouble at all with any of our systems, but just for game wise, I think that Gamecube is the best for the under 10 crowd.

Good luck with your decision!

I found out what the friends had, and what they liked. There is nothing like asking a bunch of teenagers which one is the best. It was pretty unanimous that they liked Playstation 2. So, that's what I bought.

All the younger kids seem to have games that they bring over to play too.

ok, let me add my 2 cents here! I have had all the above mentioned not to mention Nintendo and the 64! I just returned...or "sold back" my Playstation 2 and gamecube to my local "gamestop". because I LOVE my XBOX! several different reasons.....graphics are MUCH better then the other two, It is not as slow as the other two. It has a bulit in memory card were playstation 2 does not...and they are pricey! It can convert to a dvd.
I could go on and on.....but after really playing and buy for all the above....XBOX rules for sure!
also there is a Playstation 3 coming out. so you might want to consiter that to.

Yes, XBOX does have better graphics that is for sure. But it depends on the games you like.

For me, I love Nintendo so does my 8yodd. But my older 13yodd doesn't care for it. She plays Final Fantasy, more role-playing games. I do too but haven't made it to FF10 YET!

Right now I am playing Pikmin 2 on GC. Almost DONE! I am on day 76. Yes you heard right. But I am in the final cave.

So what is HALO 2, eh? Is it action or role-playing?

If you plan on renting games, go to your video store and check out the game selection for each of the game consoles you're considering. At our Blockbuster Xbox and PS2 have much larger game selections than do Gamecube. They also tend to get more new games, where the list of Gamecube games seems to stagnate.

We have an X-box, and DS loves it. However, if I could do it again, I'd skip getting one at all. He'd play it 24/7 if I let him. I don't like the way he acts when he's playing--totally zones out. Frankly, I think these games are one of the reasons kids today are having some problems that past generations never encountered. Just my two cents.

My 8 and 12 year old nephews say you should look at the games first and decide what would be right for you. My sister bought them Nintendo 64 and I think they also have gamecube. She says she bought them because they have less violent games.

She says they go in spurts playing quite a bit and then not at all for weeks. I can see where it does help with hand/eye coordination and some critical thinking skills. One game they play requires cooperation of all that are playing.

My girls are 18 and 22 and they just had gameboy. Weren't real big into it.

Here is a great product for keeping kids limited in time spent playing games....

www.time-scout.com

I'm sure you limit your son, or at least it sounds like it. But if you need to, this is the product.

My DS is very interested in this topic so he wanted to post the following:

I am a ten year old and I can easily say that Gamecube is the best because it has games that are better for younger kids. It also is very durable. Xbox is mostly mature games. Halo Two - get real! By the time the kids are old enough for that game, the system will be obsolete. A Gamecube is about to release a whole bunch of good games including Paper Mario two, Pickmin two, Donkey Konga, and Star Fox. Also Gamecube has more exclusive games only available on Gamecube. I have been getting video games since I was four (I only play an hour a day) so I know quite a lot about video games.
