Which moderate would you choose and why?

We have never stayed in a moderate only a value and along time ago off site. I am planning a trip for June 2010 :woohoo: and trying to decide which resort to pick. DS 13 and DD 11 wants a cool pool with slide, or waterfall etc... I too will enjoy a nice pool since we are going in the summer time. Which do you like or not like and why? What about the rooms ... I notice on one of the threads there was a pirate room...kids are too old for that. Do they all have themes in rooms? Thanks for all your help.

I and my DD2 are going to our first trip to the World in September. Now, I live in Southern California, so I have been to Disneyland around 100 times and my princess has been 3 times. My favorite place in the whole world is at the start of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride where you are placed in the bayou in the deep south. Therefore, when I started reading about POR, I knew that was the place for me.

Yo ho!

Choosing a Disney Resort to stay at is just as hard as choosing your favorite Disney movie! All of the resorts are greatly themed! As far as a "cool pool" I would think that Caribbean Beach Resort has the best! I know you said something along the lines that "your kids are too old" for Pirates of the Caribbean rooms.... you are NEVER to old for pirate rooms! If they are to old for that- I dare say it- aren't they too old for Disney World?! Of course not! :wizard: Let them be kids before they grow up! :cutie: I would ask for some pics of the Pirate Rooms before you decide you don't like them.... they are VERY nice and VERY new! The resort is so colorful and beautiful and in my opinion "the most Disney" of the Moderates! I wish you the best on planning your vacation! :flower3:

I think you think about staying at CSR. The rooms(which are not themed) were just renovated with queen beds and flat screen tv's. The pool has a good slide and a hot tub. The grounds around the resort are beautiful too. Good luck deciding :goodvibes

My order of preference for mods that I have stayed at is:

POFQ
POR
CSR

Given the ages of your kids, I say they would like the pool at CSR or CBR better than the other two.

We have stayed at CBR, POFQ, and CSR. And that's the order we'd rate them in.

As for the best pool - definitely the new pool at CBR! It's huge and beautiful and offers zero entry and 2 awesome slides! The new children's pool is next to the main pool and is very cool. Not sure if your kids would like it or not, mine loved it but they are a bit younger than yours. Although there were several kids in it that were older than my kids. That's the best thing about being at Disney - we all get to act younger than we are!!! :cool1:

We enjoy the rest of CBR as well. The grounds are very lush and beautiful. We love the relaxing tropical atmosphere and the hammocks by the lake. The CM's are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are larger than the rest of the moderates and have the most Disney feel to them. The bus service is fantastic too!

Good luck with your decision. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Our boys when they traveled with us LOVED the Dig Site pool at the CSR--it was their favorite of all the resorts we stayed at. I know that the CBR has a new pool...but I can't comment on it personally as we've never stayed there. I know that my son will be there in two weeks with the baseball team he coaches (they are 13 and 14 year olds) and several of them said they felt "too old" for the pirate pool. We'll see what happens when they get back.

The CSR also has a fitness center; a sand volleyball court and the largest of the hot tubs of all of the moderates. And the rooms now have queen beds.

I think, without a doubt, CBR has the best pool. The pirate pool is really just a kiddie section off to the side--it's not really a part of the main pool. The main pool is nice looking, huge, and has a great slide! People of all ages were enjoying the pool, including several adults going down the slide as well. I don't think the pool at CBR can be beat by any of the other moderate pools, and I've used all of them. Plus CBR has 6 other very large "quiet" pools around the resort for you to use! If you like to swim, I think CBR is the best choice.

As far as rooms go, the pirate rooms are only in one section of the resort and they cost extra. All of the other rooms are not overly themed-- there are Finding Nemo bedspreads and wallpaper border, but it's hard to call the rooms really Nemo themed. It's pretty subtle. I don't think your kids are too old for pirate or regular rooms-- If they don't like the look of the rooms, are you sure they'll like Disney world? I'm sure they'll be fine. Good luck deciding, and have a great trip!

My teenage boys are too old for the pirate rooms too, but CBR's Nemo rooms (which those are the only two themes there are), are even more juvenile (we've stayed in one :scared:.) I think your boys, at their age, might think the pool at CBR is a little juvenile too.

My teenage boys would more appreciate the queen size beds at CSR and the more tasteful decor there, although we can't get them to try it because of our last stay at CBR turned them off of moderates. (Even though they loved the time we stayed at the values when they were little)

I think your family would enjoy CSR's pool and amenities. :)

Have a wonderful trip wherever you choose! :goodvibes

The pirate pool, as I understand from reading reports of people who have stayed there, is the KIDDIE pool - NOT the big, main pool. So, yes, 13 and 14year olds are too old for the kiddie pool. The main pool looks (to me) like a huge, free-form pool, with resort theming like the other 3 mods. So I don't see how anyone would be too old for that. :confused3

Twasn't what I said...I'm just repeating what the kids said. I'm sure they'll give me a detailed report when they get back. Also oldest DS is not thrilled with staying in a room with Nemo on the bedspread. But, as I told him, at least he's going to Disney. I'll post a report when they get back.

Yes, that is correct. The "pirate pool" is the children's pool. Which is next to, but not connected to the new main pool. There is nothing that makes the main pool geared for only small children. It was just redone last year making it more like the deluxe pools with zero entry and an enclosed tube slide. They also left the old shorter/open slide.

It absolutely is a great pool for kids, teenagers, and adults! I know I sure enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

We have stayed at CBR, POR, and POFQ. While POFQ was our overall favorite, our boys (then 17 and 13) did not like the slide at the pool at all. It is really short and not very steep at all. They did like the pool area, but they were also old enough to enjoy a good quiet pool sometimes (when the little ones overwhelm the main pool area) and POFQ is also lacking in that respect.

They loved the pool at CBR but they were much, much younger when we stayed there. I know it has been redone and it looks very cool now. You also have the added bonus of quiet pools.

At POR, we spent more time in the quiet pool than in the main pool. The main pool was always crowded and noisy. Quiet pools were heavenly...but no slides.

We have never stayed at CSR, but I would probably choose either there or CBR if the pool is important to your kids (and considering their ages).

Good luck deciding and have a wonderful trip!

If some fish on the bedspread is going to bother him, maybe he's too old for Disney, period! I would be happy for my DS if he had the chance to go to Disney and I would not say a single negative thing about the resort he was staying at.

What difference does it make to you? It is not the resort he would have chosen, but he let his girlfriend choose out of the ones made available. She chose it for the beach--not the rooms. Personally, I wouldn't stay in the room with that theme or the pirate theme--they don't do it for me. BUT that is MY CHOICE and MY OPINION. And, personally, my son can't wait to get there and I'm personally thrilled he is going, especially since we cancelled our trip. And, at the risk of getting a "warning" you know NOTHING about my son and have no idea whether he is TOO OLD for Disney.

Okay.

We love the pools at CSR, and yes we are some of those adults using the slide. I didn't like the pool at POFQ because it was too small and too busy. The quiet pools at CSR are really nice too. A nice relaxed area to swim and unwind. We often swim while we are doing laundry since the laundrys are right by the quiet pools. Our friends recently stayed at CBR and they loved the pool there so I would say to look at those two resorts first. There are lots of pictures here on Dis or over on Allears. You have two good choices so you cannot go wrong...

We love, love, love POR. Great pool, not to mention the fabulous theming of the entire property.
