Which Moderate Resort is best for MK?

I was wondering if you could help - I'm sure someone can!

We have friends coming to our wedding in November who want to spend a few days in Orlando, doing the Disney thing.

They have a daughter who will be two and a half by then, and at the moment, they only anticipate going to MK, but spreading it over two or three days so they can do it all and don't have to rush around.

They want to stay somewhere nice, but it can't be too expensive because they have already booked a villa for their stay which obviously they won't be using on these nights.

If it's not too expensive, they would love to stay in a Disney hotel, and I wondered which moderate resort is most convenient for MK, or which you would recommend staying at for any other reason, just so they have somewhere to start looking.

Thanks for your help!

we stayed at the port orleans riverside last november, its not to far to drive to the MK (about 10-15 minutes i think, but wasnt timing it so not 100% sure!!), and its a gorgeous resort, we stayed in the mansions section and had a great time. theres a boat transfer to downtown disney thats nice and easy going, and it isnt hugely expensive. if you want lots of info on disney resorts try checking http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm
hope that helps.

ps: just realised that you said you're getting married, congrats!!!! i got married in the wedding pavilion in november, and it was great. are you having an intimate wedding or a custom? best bit of advice though, enjoy every minute of your day, it goes so quickly!!! (and wear the wedding ears in the park, you get so much attention, its great!!). and let the disney hotel you're staying in know that its your wedding, they cant be more helpful!!

Congratulations on your marriage! We're actually having a beach wedding down on the Gulf Coast, much to dd's disappointment! I don't think dh-to-be was too keen on the Disney thing, although I would have jumped at the chance. We'll spend a couple of days up in Disney though, so I'll try to persuade him to wear the Ears (could take some time though!).

Thanks for the information on the hotel - I'll pass it on.

There are no moderate hotels in the actual Magic Kingdom resort area, but I believe that Coronado Springs is the closest to the MK. Caribbean Beach Resort is definitely the furthest distance. However, there really is not much difference and the standard of transport varies considerably. Personally speaking I would not use the closeness to MK as a factor when choosing a moderate resort (none are particularly close).

I have heard many good reviews about Port Orleans - lots of people say it is the best moderate.

The Wilderness Lodge is right on Bay Lake and has frequent boats to the Magic Kingdom. The rates here are some of the lowest for a deluxe resort. It might be worth checking out the rates to see how they compare.

Congratulations on your wedding! :flower:

We absolutely loved Port Orleans French Quarter - it's got a lovely intimate feel to it as it's quite small. Using the back road, the journey to MK was about 5 mins.

I spoke to a English girl setting off to get married from POR last Nov, around the 14th I think!
In response to the OP, congratulations on your up coming wedding! POR is fairly convienient to MK, the busses only seem to take 10 - 15 mins and on the way back in the evening you never seem to share with POFQ so the journey seems fast.
The only other thought is how about a wing room at the Contempory, the price never seems too bad for those and its a fairly quick walk.

Hi Kristie,

As others have said there is not much in it for distance to MK from the Mods.

I would recommend your friends choose the hotel by preferred theme.

As a UK resident I am always surprised by how reasonable the WDW hotels are in comparison to ones over here ;) so hopefully your friedns will think the same :)

Cheers

Karen

PS We have lots of great resort information right here on the Dis http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/resorts/resortmain.htm

I too would recommend Port Orleans Riverside. As already mentioned the bus takes a the back road by Wilderness Campground, you are at MK in minutes. We loved it when we stayed there.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Port Orleans does sound perfect for them. I'll pass on the information.

Hi Kristie, it might be worth looking into a value resort & comparing prices, especially with a 2 year old, the theming is great, especially allstars movies resort (great pool). We have stayed there as well as port orleons & carribean beach hotel, they are all lovely & the disney transport means you wont have much of a problem getting to MK from any disney hotel, plus the money they would save on a value means more spending money!!!

POR is definitely the closest of the moderate resorts to MK, as it is able to use a back-roads route via Fort Wilderness, whereas both CS and CB are further away via the main roads. CS is a great choice, though, as it is newer and has slightly more in the way of amenities.

Thanks again for the responses. I sent them off with all of the information, they went onto the Disney website to check it all out and guess what? They fell in love with AKL and have booked a Savannah view room! So much for trying to save them some £ which was the original plan! Never mind, I am sure they will absolutely love it, and it will be worth every penny, I'm certain.

Thanks again for taking the trouble to help out!

I agree! I loved my AKL savannah room :)

Port Orleans French Quarter will have less walking, and although it is a bit furter on from Riverside, it is only aabout five mins and shares the same busses as Riverside.

I would also look at the value resorts with a little one, the all star movies might be good with the theming.

AKL will be wonderful, good choice. Congratulations and good luck for the upcoming wedding,

Claire xx
