I am trying to help a friend pick a resort to stay at for a week long trip to WDW in Sept....it will be her, her DD (a mature age 9) and her DH will join them about halfway through the trip. They are not "huge" Disney fans, but they are looking forward to their first trip. The only mod we have stayed at is CSR, but what is the good and bad of the others? Which would you recommend for your first trip? (They have ruled out values and deluxe resorts...)

I don't think they can go wrong at any of them. We love CBR with the beaches and the tropical feel. Plenty to see and do at CBR. You can watch the Epcot fireworks from the beach at night, play in the sand, ride the boats, rent a bike.

The main pool is near the food court also.

Thanks for the info.....

Which one has had the most current refurb....is it POFQ? I thought I had read a post about mildewy bathrooms recently...

I guess I will feel somewhat responsible if she doesn't like the resort, you know? :confused3

POR is still being renovated building by building so it is still open, POFQ had it's complete refurb finished in March.

If she decides on POR, tell her to ask for a recently renovated room.

POR is one of our favourite mods, CS is our favourite, but since she has already stayed at CS she may want to try a different resort.

POR has wonderful grounds and feels more peaceful than CBR. CBR is our least favourite of the mods. POR offers the water taxi to DTD which is wonderful in the evening. POR also has a fishing hole, although her daughter is probably too old for that. ::MinnieMo

CBR is our absolute favorite - the resort was renovated in late 2002 and it looks fabulous. I just love the atmosphere -w have never actually stayed at the other moderates but have gone and taken a look and although they all look lovely, they just weren't for us. Pehaps you should take a look at safety mom's FAQs on CBR to see if your friends would be interested.
And as safetymom mentioned, there is nothing like laying in a hammock on the beach watching the fireworks:)

My vote is for POFQ! We love it there!

The recent refurbishments are a plus, but even without that, the resort is (I believe) the smallest of the moderates, which I think is a definite plus! The bus is shared with POR, however, there is only one bus stop at POFQ, and you are the first picked up and dropped off - big plus!

The resort has a relaxing theme, but a great pool too for the kids! The boat ride to DD is wonderful (and romantic for the adults).

I think it is a great first time choice (and a return choice)!

If the 9 yo likes the pool and a waterslide, I would go with CSR. They have one of the best waterslides from among the WDW resort pools.
