Which Mod Resort do you prefer and why?

OK --- Opportunity for DH and I to go to DISNEY FREE!!! MIL will pay for us and SIL and Hubby (along with MIL and FIL) to go to DisneyWorld in Feb 2006 -- if we stay in our budget and don't go to Deluxe. (DH and I LOVE WL-- but a little out of the bugeted range for this trip).

She asked that I go ahead and make the arrangements for a week for everyone, and I said sure.... now I am not too familiar with the mod resorts, so please tell me about your favorite, what are some of the pros.

(We usually go to WL because it has very little walking from the "main" part with resturants and lobby to the rooms and pool-- are there any MODS like this?? )

We love Coronado Springs it is our absolute favourite moderate resort. We hated Dixie Landings.

We have stayed at The Caribbean Beach Resort and Port Orleans Riverside and POR is my favorite out of the two moderates. It is a little spread out but you can request a building close to the food court and they usually accomodate. Check-in and the food court & sit down restaurant are all in the same building so that makes everything very convenient. At CBR check-in and food-court are sperate and the check-in building seems far removed from the rest of the resort. We enjoyed the food court at POR, the theme pool was nice as well as they have a quiet pool for each section, they offer a water taxi to DTD

My DH and I just booked at CSR..We have never stayed there or at Disney resort (offsite only) but we are very excited about it..After doing a lot of reserch on the mods, there really was no choice..It was CSR all the way..I can't wait to check out the pyramid pool..looks awesome..Whereever you stay you will have a great time..I send lots pixie dust your way..

The buildings are spread out like 2 story garden apartments. There are 3 or 4 bus stops spread around the resort, including the main building.
There are a few small relaxing pools also spread around the resort just for kicking back without all the commotion of the main pool.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the size of the rooms is about the same no matter which resort you're in. The standard room with 2 double beds at CSR appeard to be about the same size of the similar room at GF, my only first hand point of reference.

My favorite is POFQ. As far as mods are concerned, we've stayed at POFQ, CBR, and CSR...I like POFQ the best. The architecture and colors were awesome, the landscaping was so lush...it just seemed so peaceful to me. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

My vote for moderate is CSR; I just loved it.The pool is wonderful, the kids loved it. Pepper Market is also very good for meals, and Maya Grill has a breakfast buffet. The grounds are beautiful and spread out, but we loved our walks, especially at night. I think you will enjoy it . Have fun!

Our favorite moderate is PO-FQ. We like the smaller, more compact size, only having one bus stop, and I LOVE the beignets in the food court in the morning!!!! The theming is beautiful, as well!!!

We LOVE POR. We love the lazy Tom Sawyer-ish feel after a hectic day at the parks. We love breakfast at Boatwrights (the Blueprint Omlette mmm mmm mmm). We love the boat ride to DTD. We love using both POR and POFQs pools...legal pool hopping! My son loved fishing with my dad at Ole Man Island at POR. We loved how our Mousekeeper made animal/towel displays. We love Bob Jackson the piano man in the River Roost Lounge (tons of fund for the whole family). We loved the shady cool lush pathways and the bunnies that hopped around them. I don't think I can convince my kids or my parents to stay anywhere else. I'm not so sure I can be convinced either

We stayed at POFQ and CBR...we prefer POFQ. There was nothing wrong with CBR at all, we all liked the 'feel' of POFQ better and the fact it's smaller.

Our favorite is CSR. We love the setting and the food court is great!

We just got back too. This was our 8th trip to CSR and we still love it just as much as our first time back in 1998.

IN THE MIDDLE
The Pepper Market is either a love it or hate it place. We love it but some folks just don't care for it.
Convention resort - some guests don't like seeing other guests in suits. Doesn't bother us and helps keep the buses empty.

I love the CBR....when I go to FLA I like palm trees...and I love the fact that the check in building is removed from the main area....last trip we checked in and never had to see it again... (I don't like to see folks checking out ..it reminds me that I have to leave.. ) VERY relaxing atmosphere, and fun to see the illuminations fireworks from the beach

We also stayed at Dixie Landings (now PO riverside) It was very nice...( i missed the palm trees)
Big pluses there....

they have a bar with a piano player

you can rent a small boat and take it down the river..we cruised all the way to DTD

If you want to go to DTD there is a boat launch... relaxing...

I never stayed at CSR...but we stopped there briefly....I did not like the convention activity by the lobby, did not like the check in right there and the gift shop seemed geared to business travelers...
also be sure to read more about the pepper market and how it operates before you make a choice...they have a surgcharge for tables....


But with the Disney Themeing I don't think you could go wrong at any moderate!!

We love Coronado Springs Resort. Great theme, beautiful grounds, comfortable and clean rooms with great views, the BEST food court the pepper market, awesome pool and slide and great gift shop. I have to disagree with one of the other posters-I dont think the gift shop is geared towards anyone but WDW guests, conventioners or otherwise. I also dont really see why the checkin being near the main entrance matters much b/c once you are checked in, you wont be going back there. You dont have to pass through it or go near it if you dont want to. That being said, we also loved CBR, just prefer CSR.

I've stayed at all of the mods except CBR. My favorite is POR with CSR a close second. POFQ is nice but just not my favorite theme. You might appreciate the smaller size of POFQ since you like this about WL.

The things I like about POR:
1. The theme
2. The landscaping is beautiful. Some don't like how spread out the resort is - but I enjoy walking through the park like setting.
3. The restaurant (Boatwrights) has a good breakfast. I also like the food court better than any other mod. Its good size with views of the water wheel and I have no complaints about the food.
4. The rooms - mini fridge, coffee maker, privacy curtain at double sinks, recently refurbished with new flooring, bedspreads, curtains.
5. The pool area
6. Boat rides to DTD, carriage rides, lounge entertainment.

You must have a great MIL! This would be me if my MIL ever did something like that.

CSR is awesome!!!

DH and MIL have medical issues that require wheel chair use or limited walking, and was wondering about the location of the food and bus stops, is it that far from many of the room locations??

I'm a paraplegic and use a wheelchair. We have always stayed in the casitas, which are not far from the main area. I can push myself easily and quickly, so if you use an ECV you will have no problems getting to the main area/bus stops quickly. If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me anytime

Obviously my answer is CSR. We love it because I feel since it's a convention resort it is geared more towards adults, therefore it's also quieter. The times we have been there it is quiet, peaceful, no screaming kids running amock (sp), no wild foot traffic, you get the idea We love the CSR and are going back in December

My favorite mod is the Port Orleans Riverside, but if you are looking for a location with little walking from the main part to the room, then I think Port Orleans French Quarter is your best bet. It is the smallest moderate resort, and has a quaint feel to it. The decor and grounds are amazing, and it is the only resort with boat access to the downtown disney area. You can also take the boat over to Port Orleans Riverside, a five minute ride, where there's another restaurant, as well as carriage rides and another pool you can swim in.
