hi everyone

well not long to go now, could someone please tell me which painkillers to buy in the us, at home we would buy paracetamol or ibruprofen but I think you can get something stronger over there. Have had a killer headache all day and the ibruprofen did not seem to help. Probably because I had 2 flat tyres to sort out!

Also my son had conjunctovitus{sp} out there one time very expensive trip to the drs so would advise anyone who is suseptable to buy some from boots £5 instead of $170.

thanks
michelle

I think they still have "Advil advance" a gel capsule so you don't need a drink to take them always a good idea to have a few in your bag just in case a head ache strikes. They worked really well last time we had to get some, in fact we bought more for the journey home but thankfully didn't need them.

If you have a problem it always worth asking the chemists - they sell lots more over the counter than you can get here.

Four years ago in New York we spent a saturday night in A&E department! I had a tooth infection way off the scale in pain - it was going to cost $600 dollars to just walk into the treatment area, however the nurse recommended some pain killers and a WONDERFUL gel - a bit like Anbesol over here - over here it is 2% strenght, but over the counter in the US it is 20% strengh!!

Instantly cured my pain and I was able to enjoy the rest of the stay. As someone who frequently suffers from tooth infections, I always have some in my medicine box.

My back went on me one year so i went to the walk in clinic they gave me ibropruphen but they were 800mg so much stronger than we get over here and boy did they work lol.

if you only have ibruprofen and paracetamol, take them together :goodvibes they're two different types of medication so they won't clash...should make your headache go away next time :thumbsup2

i had something over there....neurofen or something similar....their extra strength was the same as our normal strength :confused3

I swear by Tylanol it is brilliant for shifting headaches and back pain.

If you want to buy off the shelf the Advil is the way to go, otherwise talk to the pharmacist.

The one at WalMart on the 192 seemed good...

Advil works for me and I get storming headaches - they work much better than Annadin Extra which is the only thing that works with me over here - usually stock up on a bottle of Advil before we come home as well.

Watch your dosages tho - I had a really bad tickly cough last year and was coughing so much I needed to use my inhaler (happens over here) but I got a cough bottle to ease it at night - 4 capfuls I could take in one go!! Thought it was a lot so only took 2, man, felt groggy all the next day as well!! Good stuff tho - better than Nightnurse but it was just from the Pharmacy at the Walgreens!

We get cheapy advil from the dollar glen store, exactly the same but a fraction of the price, it tell you in bold letters it is the same ingredients as advil, you get night and day, night makes you sleep! great for night shift, lol

Drs reccomended this when DS broke his leg, so as Kayleigh says-it's quite safe.
