Hi everyone! I have a Nikon D3200 and I used to have the kit lens that came with the camera, but my father dropped it a few months ago and it became unusable. I bought a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 and I fell in love with it.

Now I want to buy a new lens because I have an upcoming trip to Disney World this December and I want to take advantage of some Black Friday deals.

I want a fast zoom lens, but I only have like 500 dollars to spend. Right now, my two main options are the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Can you guys weigh in on the quality of these lenses? Are they worth it? The Sigma currently has a 57% discount on Amazon, so it's down to $420 and the Tamron is $500.

If anyone knows about other lenses, please write about them!

Thanks!

I considered the sigma one once and did not buy it after reading numerous reviews ranking it last compared to the Nikon and tamron versions.

I would google reviews for the lenses you are looking at--and not just Amazon reviews, but actual articles about them. Make a decision from that.

My only experience with sigma was at a conference. A sigma rep sponsored a photo walk and handed out sigma lenses for us to use. I used the 35 mm art lens. It was very slow to focus and I hated it. Oh wait! I had the sigma 70-200 for awhile. It was soft. I sold it, bought the Nikon version and never looked back. (Obviously, since I forgot about that sigma experience!)

I've heard good things about the tamron 24-70. Don't know about the 28-75 but on a 3200, it'll probably be fine. Imo, I'd generally lean towards tamron over sigma. But if there is any way you can spring for the Nikon version, I'd do it. Even buying used would be better. Good luck!

Look at the Tamron 17-50.

The issue with the 28-75, is that really wide enough for you? It's going to be barely wider than your 35mm. If you want wide angle landscapes etc, you need a wider lens.

I have the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 that I use on my D3200 and love it. Everyone I know who has that lens has nothing but positive things to say about it and its right in your price range. I think you'll be very happy.
