I'm trying to decide between a sideways cat 11 on deck 6 or a cat 10 on deck 7. The price difference is only $160.00. There will be 2 adults and one child and we are sailing on the Magic. Which layout is more functional/comfortable based on your experiences?

I have never stayed in a sideway Cat 11 but I have heard alot of positive about the layout. In the cat 10 you will have the split bath that you will not have in the cat 11. The cat 10 will be just a little larger. If having two sinks will help in getting everyone ready and having the Toilet and shower tub in different rooms beneficial you might want to go with the Cat 10 other wise the Cat 11 should work. But please remember I have never stayed in the 11.

I haven't stayed in a sideways Cat 11, but my parents had one across the hall from us in November, so I was able to check it out pretty well. Based on what I saw, I'd take the sideways Cat 11. It felt so much roomier than our Cat 10. The split bath is great, but to me, the better room layout is worth the giving up the bathroom space. Just my two cents. Good luck on your choice!

With two adults and a chld, a sideways 11 will be just fine. We stayed in one on deck 5 in June and had 2 adults and 2 kids (9 & 12) and we were fine. Save the money -
there is so much other fun stuff to spend it on. We have also stayed in a Cat 10 - while the split bath was nice and would have been again with a preteen daughter. We really felt the sideways was more roomy due to the layout. Most of the difference in sq ft is the split bath not really much additional useable space.

One thing we did was have the coffee table removed and it helped with traffice flow in the room. We would definitely stay in a Cat 11 sideways again. The main thing to remember is to keep organized.

Thanks for all the input. Does anyone know if all of the sideways cat 11s have steamer trunks? I know some of them do. I would not book a regular cat 11 or cat 12 because they do not have them. The lack of a steamer trunk would be a deal breaker for me.

Yes, the sideways cat 11 has the steamer trunk. I stay in 5013 every year. Love my sideways room!

And I have stayed in a regular cat 11 room. I went back to my sideways...

We will be in 5013 on the Wonder, Sept 6, 2009. Looking forward to this cabin on the 4 night cruise.

We like the sideways 11. I wouldn't pay the extra for the split bath! I've had both....and would prefer the sideways.

Not to hijack the thread, but.....We are booked in 5013 for our 4-day cruise on the Wonder next Christmas (2010)! We just got back from the 3-day cruise and had the SPH cabin 5020, which I loved. No SPH's were available on the 4-day, and I loved deck 5, so we booked 5013. Please tell me more about this room!

Do you notice the different rocking motion in the sideways cabins because the beds face a different direction? I have always slept in beds that were parallel to the length of the ship rather than perpendicular. does this make sense?

I have cruised 6 times and last year had a sideway category 10 and love it more that the standard cat11... yes it has a split bath but what i liked the most is the extra room. if you get a category 11 in the lower levels midship( this is only where cat10 rooms are mid ship) I thought the $$ was well worth it if you have kids.

Sorry... but what is a sideway cat 11 ??
What is the difference with the regular cat 11 ?
I am not booked in a cat 11 so just want to know what is the difference
and would like to find out if I have booked a sideways 11....

If you look at the FAQs under Staterooms "virtual tour" you can see photos of the sideways 11s. They are up front on decks 5 and 6. There was also another thread recently that gave the actual room numbers but I have yet to discover how to post these :confused3. Hope this helps.

So the difference between a sideways and a regular cat 11 is how the bed is positioned ?
Do I understand this right ?
I have been in a cat 10 .... that is also a sideways then ??

In our cat 11 as you entered you were looking at the couch. The bathroom and closet were to your left and the queen bed, dresser, etc. were to the right. In a regular cat 11you enter in a hallway between the bathroom and closet. I hope I explained this correctly.

Cat 11 is the only cat with a room that is sideways. The difference in on most the rooms you enter and go past the baths/ closet and then into the area with the bed and sofa.

On the sideway cat 11 when you are looking in the door the room is wider than it is long. The bed is to one side, the sofa is in the middle and the closet and bath is to the other side. There are only a few of these rooms and they are normally taken very early in the booking window.

I just got upgraded from a GTY 12 to sideways cat. 11, room 5009. Has anyone stayed in this room -- my concern is that it will be loud above the theater. :goodvibes
