In 9 days we are going to checking in to OKW.:yay: We stayed last year and loved our room. I think it was building 54 or 56? We are going to try to get that area again if possible. I was wondering if anyone has a favorite spot and if so what #? We would like to try and get a waterview again.

Thanks for your help!

Our favorite spot is South Point area, and specifically buildings 55, 56, 45, and 46.

thanks!!! I wanted to have a back up if they didn't have where we stayed last Jan. Thanks again.

We love #63:

Elevator
View of a lake with a fountain
Easy walking distance to HH
Can pick up or get off the bus at three different locations (Miller's road, Penninsular, HH)
You get to see the higher fireworks from Epcot's Illuminations every night

We've stayed there twice and have loved it everytime. We have stayed at other spots around HH (#18, #16, #13) and once at Turtle pond (#32). I think that #18 is our second favorite. We had a nice family of squirrels that lived in the palm tree next to our room. We loved watching them.

Enjoy OKW!

Why do you like these buildings? I'll be making ressies at the end of the month for August and am wondering what to request. This will be a more relaxed vacation with more time spent in the room / at the resort. We are traveling with 4 boys (10, 10, 6, and almost 5) - so we're thinking near the (a?) pool will be good. But otherwise, don't really have a clue.

We've been to OKW once before - had a GV in 42, I think, but we were never there. So, we didn't really get the "flavor" of the resort. We'll be getting to know it this time.

Thanks!

I specifically like those buildings because they are near the South Point pool and on the canal, so they have great views (except that lower floors on one end of 55 could be behind vegetation), and are definitely on the quiet end of the resort. They are also close to South Point bus stop, so easy access to anywhere else in the resort or in WDW. If your kids are going to be wanting to use the big slide at HH, you will want to take any available bus that goes to any park, and get off at HH, since that is where all buses stop before leaving the resort.

I just got back from my 1st stay at OKW. Loved it! I stayed in building 11 (Unit 1122 - a dedicated 2 BR). It was great. Right across from the HH. The view from the deck was of the woods and part of the golf course, but that didn't bother me. it was quiet, the room was huge and I liked being close to Olivia's.

We've only stayed at OKW once, and it was in South Pointe, I believe building 53. When I looked at the map of the resort I wasn't sure I'd like it, as it's so far from the main building and pool. We LOVED it! We were just steps from the bus stop and a very short walk to the quiet pool. Bus service was very good, and the area was really quiet. The kids wanted to swim at the main pool once to try out the slide, so we just took the bus. Very quick and easy.

My first stay at OKW was in 4525 (one bedroom)and quite honestly felt like I'd won the lottery and someone was going to "find out";) . All rooms had view of the canal. Like you were virtually sitting on it. It is the last building on that side so it had a vew up the canal towards the front area as well. It was full of light which I love.

But I do know that some people would like to be closer to a bus stop. I didn't find it far at all but I know some would. I also walked to the main area regularly. But once again some would not. I've had a tremendous amount of "what?" over the years when WDWers say it's too far. I try to be open-minded but it's difficult....

Have a wonderful time. I love OKW and especially the balconies.

Thanks! It sounds like there are pros and cons for every area.

If you're on the first floor can you access the grounds from the patio. I'm having visons of boys charging off into the "backyard". And wondering if that's a bad thing or a good thing... :)

Also, how is the sound from above if you're on the first floor? I'm sound sensitive and heavy footed guests above me have been known to keep me up at night.

Unless your kids are monkeys, they probably wont be enticed to climb the railings of the balcony. Do NOT let them do that, since OKW goes to great effort to keep folks off the golf course and from behind villas. The vegetation is helpful for that.

Unfortunately, if you are on the first floor you COULD have noisey neighbors above, but that doesn't happen often to us, and the worst place for that is if you happen to be in a studio or 2 bedroom unit under a GV. The GV has hardwood floors in the living room/dining room, and with lots of folks in a GV, that can make a lot of noise. We once had kids above us who insisted on bouncing super balls at 5:00 AM! A well placed mop handle to the ceiling put a stop to that though.;)

My favorite area is also south Point - with children I would also like being near the Turtle Pond Pool and play area - you can also go to the HH pool but sometimes the quiet pools are a better choice in busy times. There really are so many good areas you should not have a problem. Hope you have a wonderful time planning and a great trip.

Does anybody know what the absolute closest non-smoking one bedroom is to the big pool?

We're going in august for my younger one's birthday and all they talk about is the water slide!

And do I have a better chance of getting the room if I ask now as opposed to when I check in?

We have the ressie already, I just don't know if a room request actually matters done early out vs check in?

There would be plenty of rooms that would meet those criteria, since only 1 building near HH is a smoking building (#12). That being said, remember that ALL villas are a short walk or bus ride to the main pool where the slide is.

OK - I'm closing in on it!

Non-smoking
Dedicated 2BD
Building 30 or higher (thanks for the tip on the extra bathroom door!)
2nd or 3rd floor
Near a pool (that should put us in either South Pointe or Turtle Pond - right?)
And, if they can do it - Canal View? (I'm not much of one for golf.)

How many requests to I get? Hum, maybe I need more refinement? Is there another view besides Golf or Canal?

Only 17 more days till I can make my ressie! (And some folks only countdown till they actually go.... :lmao: )

New to the boards.......
Been a DVC Member (OKW) for about 6 years now.
I like any kind of water view and so far building 45 is perhaps my favorite. It's got a wonderfully private and beautiful view of the canal/waterway, yet it's only about a 7min walk to the Hosp House. We also really like #43 in the Turtle Pond area, but that's a bit farther from the Hosp House (maybe a 10 min walk ?). But a great water view.

Hi,

Building 12 is no longer a smoking building. I was trying to put friends in it last month. The coded map is no longer correct. OKW has now only 1 and half buildings that are smoking optional despite what the map says. One is #19, and the other is #41. I can't remember which of the two it the "half only". The CM alluded that OKW, and maybe most DVCs, are going the way of Disneyland. Which I think is smoke free, yes?

It was a humorous situation for me as I was at the desk early, early, early because I thought the choice of three buildings was going to be tight. And my friends had to have a smoking building. That kind of smoking. Luckily, they were in #19 and it was a beautiful suite.

I should post this on a new thread. Some will celebrate of course. Some will be sad. But there are so many ways of looking at this. Will this mean more people will abuse the N/S rooms? I don't know.
