Which is Quicker?

We ended up walking to Beach Club and getting an Uber. It worked perfectly!

We didn’t need to get one in advance. The car was literally 30 seconds away! I placed the reservation standing at the front doors and it was pulling up as we walked outside.

My advices (2), as an Uber driver like Joel:
  1. Walk to the front and take the FREE bus unless there is REALLY some important reason why you are rushed.
  2. Order Uber when you are ready to open the door and get in the vehicle. If you follow the tortured advice about ordering at IG, you are almost certain to get hit with a $5-$6 cancellation fee.
Also, the real Uber fare should be roughly $9 for X or $13 for XL.

And that said, I'd bus.

About Uber at WDW, I use them frequently in NYC and always wait until I'm at my pickup point to call since they swarm the city's streets.
In non-urban areas you can count on a longer wait in general thus it's not unusual for the driver to need 10-15 minutes to get to your destination so I use that time to my advantage. It's great that Uber's app tells you how faraway the nearest driver is before you press the "Confirm" button too. Makes all considerate of the other's time. Finally, Uber charges a per minute fee if you are late further keeping the playing field level.

There are two fees riders should be aware of:
  • Uber charges a cancellation fee if you cancel your ride more than two minutes after the driver accepting the ride. That policy may be market-specific, and may not be in effect everywhere, but it's in effect here in Miami. Yet another reason NOT to request a ride before you are actually ready.
  • Uber charges for wait time starting two minutes after their GPS shows the driver arriving. In a busy setting, arrival may well occur as soon as the driver accepts the ride, and it doesn't have to be precisely accurate...which is why they have the two-minute lag time.
    • Lyft charges for time as soon as the driver indicates arrival, but Lyft's GPS problems are severe sometimes. Last week I had 4 Lyft rides and had GPS problems with all four -- pickup location mistakes on all 4, and dropoff location mistakes on 3 out of 4. On one ride, the dropoff indicated was about 8 miles off, even though the address shown for the dropoff was correct. Also on that ride, I was completely unable to even start the ride. I drove the passengers anyway, but had to call Lyft support twice to fix the error.
